Do you need a little pick-me-up? Something to get you through the rest of the week? Well, you’re in luck – and you can thank California-based indie-rock outfit The Sandspits. Their brand new release ‘MGB’ is an infectious, summery, and upbeat little number that somehow gets catchier and catchier with each listen. Serving as the follow-up to their previous single ‘Melocoda’, ‘MGB’ takes a “simpler” approach sonically, and I truly mean that in the best possible way. Melodic basslines, groovy guitar work, and energetic vocal performances are all on full display – and in little more than two and a half minutes – The Sandspits produce an instant classic!
Currently working on and conceptualising their second full-length album, the band have made a name for themselves with their high-energy and sometimes downright rowdy live performances. It’s at times like these that we at Indie Top 39 wish we could just hop on a plane and go and catch a show of theirs. Perhaps in the near future.
‘MGB’ is easily one of the most infectious, upbeat, and charming little tunes that we’ve heard this year!
INDIE TOP 39
What does the song mean to you?
MGB is a good vibes song perfect for any beach day!
What do you hope to achieve with this song?
We hope ‘MGB’ becomes the song that brings back good summer memories for everyone. Nothing but good vibes, ‘MGB’ is a song that everyone can enjoy, regardless of genre preferences, and we hope it becomes everyone’s aux go-to.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
‘MGB’ was written about another student at the college we attend. On a particularly warm summer day, he broke down in front of our dorms and needed a jump, and his red MGB inspired the tune.
What do you want to achieve in the next 12 months with your music?
The last time we went into the studio, we recorded three songs – ‘MGB’, ‘Melocoda’ (our last release) and a third song that is on its way. If those three aren’t enough for you, we’re heading back into the studio for another set of songs come August, and we hope to have the beginnings of an EP for release before the end of the year!
