Yukkon is the musical project of Los Angeles-based indie musician Tyler Connaghan, and he’s just released an incredible, euphoric new single called ‘Under The Sun’. As a self-confessed “advocate for getting outdoors and exploring as much as possible”, Yukkon has managed to capture his love for the desert beautifully. Soaring birds, gentle instrumentation, and just a general sense of expansiveness are the order of the day on ‘Under The Sun’, as Yukkon rejuvenates his mind and body in the desert. “And when my light is dim, and all my work is done,” he sings. “You’ll find me under the sun.”
Drawing on inspiration from a wide variety of artists – Bay Ledges, Beck, Magic City Hippies, Bonobo, and Toro y Moi to name just a few – Yukkon has managed to fashion a sound that is original and distinctive. With an album planned for release this summer, we at Indie Top 39 can’t wait to hear more from the skilful musician.
‘Under The Sun’ hits all the right notes and showcases an artist who gets better and better with each release!

What does the song mean to you?
This song was written while I was camping up in Alabama Hills near Lone Pine, CA. I’ve always had a deep love for the desert and I wanted to capture its expansiveness with the lyrics and production.
I attempt to make every song feel like a journey. I love camping, skating, hiking, road-tripping, and getting out as much as possible. ‘Under The Sun’ is a song that paints a picture of one of my favorite west coast regions (the high desert) in the most imaginative sense.
What are your favourite lyrics in the song?
“And when my light is dim
And all my work is done
You’ll find me under the sun”
The chorus has a few meanings.
1: It says that when I’m done working and taking care of the responsibilities in my life, there’s no place I’d rather be than outdoors.
2: It’s also saying, when my time is up here on Earth and I die, I’ll be recycled back into the Earth and became part of nature.
What do you want to achieve in the next 12 months with your music?
My plan in the next 12 months is to continue releasing singles, film a few music videos up and down the coast of California, and put out an album in the summer before playing live again.
Please finish the sentence – Music to me is…
Everything. It’s a job, a creative outlet, and something that I use each day to move through my life. I also believe music is innate in humans. Even when we’re infants, we’re able to recognize rhythm, which is pretty incredible. Without it, life would be dull. There’s nothing quite like it.
