Stoke-on-Trent indie rockers, Young Decades, make a blistering return to the scene with their brand new, high-energy tune ‘Don’t Talk’. As the band’s eighth single released this year, ‘Don’t Talk’ takes inspiration from a superb blend of classic rock and gritty Americana – never letting up for the entirety of the track. A song that focuses on a toxic relationship and feelings of betrayal, ‘Don’t Talk’ is ultimately a message of growth and acceptance. “Get in the car and drive, we’re running out of time,” sings vocalist James Tidd. “I see headlights behind the state lines.”
Young Decades have recently seen their tunes begin to resonate with listeners from all over the world – Mexico City, São Paulo, Santiago just to name a few. This can only bode well for the highly talented outfit going forward, and we at Indie Top 39 can’t wait to hear what they do next!

What does the song mean to you?
It’s a song about broken friendships. That feeling of betrayal that you get when they fall apart and how you wonder if it was your fault or if you could’ve done more. But then ultimately growing and moving on to something better. Putting this track together has been quite a cathartic experience.
Who do you hope the song resonates with the most?
I don’t think there’s one group or type of person. Just because that’s what the song means to us doesn’t mean that you should feel the same. There might be one lyric or hook that gives two people completely different feelings. I just hope that people enjoy it and build their own narrative.
What inspired you to share the song with the world?
We want people to hear our music. And because of Covid we’ve been limited with how that can happen, so we committed to releasing something every ten weeks and so far we’ve managed that. We usually have about three or four songs that are being worked on at a time so not only does that give us a pipeline but it means we aren’t forced into releasing for the sake of it, but that we can share our best stuff all the time.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
I think with this song we had something on our chests that needed to be let out and move on from. But it usually starts as something small. Either someone will bring an idea to rehearsal or someone improvises something. We mess around with it for a while and then James goes and builds on it. Once we have a structure to the song we collaborate and throw ideas back and forth until we get to the end product.
