North Macedonian-based singer/songwriter, Yon Idy, marks his return to the scene with the incredible new single ‘My Fire’. A laid back indie-pop tune, ‘My Fire’ sees the artist exploring the self-doubts that live inside all of us, as we pursue our passions in life. “Here we go again, but it’s a new road,” Idy softly sings. “One that’ll take me far from home, and all the worries and troubles that keep me cold.” Idy’s vocal performance deserves a special mention, as the musician brings warmth, fragility and honesty to the tune. Influenced early on by an eclectic mix of artists – Leonard Cohen, The Beatles, and Muse, it’s no surprise that Yon Idy has been able to craft an especially unique and distinctive sound. We at Indie Top 39 can’t wait to hear what he does next, but in the meantime, enjoy the accompanying music video for ‘My Fire’ below.
‘My Fire’ is a beautiful exploration of self-doubt, yet ultimately hope, from a highly talented musician.

What does the song mean to you?
‘My Fire’ is a song I’ve been keeping close to my heart for a long time. I wrote it at a time where I found myself struggling to get my music out and heard by people. It was meant to give me support at that moment and help me get through it but it proved to be more than that. It reassured me that this is what I wanted to do with my life no matter what happens. It’s been a long time since I wrote it, and I’ve found myself going back to it every time I have felt low.
What do you hope to achieve with this song?
I really hope that the support that I got from the song is what the listeners will also get from it. Hope it is their light in tough times, or in challenges that lay ahead of them. I wish that it gives them strength to make their own choices when they’re at a crossroad. I hope it becomes their friend in times where they feel lonely.
What are your favourite lyrics in the song?
“Here’s a song I’ll write for my own
One that cries out but keeps me warm and keeps my
Fires burning around my soul”
It was at the moment that I wrote this lyric that I truly knew what the song was going to be about. I needed the support at that moment, something for me to lean on to.
What do you want to achieve in the next 12 months with your music?
My biggest wish is to perform my songs in front of as many people as possible. It’s a unique feeling. Right now, I’m at the stage where I’m unknown to the public, so they have no expectations as to what the show is going to be like. It’s a nice feeling to be able to see people’s reaction to my music, and it’s a nice playing field for me to experiment in. It might be the pandemic and what it has caused, but what I’ve gotten from it is mostly the need to be among crowds of people enjoying their time together.
