Last year, we fell hard for Yon Idy’s track ‘My Fire’, and now the North Macedonian-based singer/songwriter has returned with another cracking little indie-folk tune called ‘In Time’. With a simple but oh so infectious and melodic sound, Idy allows for his vocals to shine bright again – and it’s these vocals that we at Indie Top 39 believe will take the talented musician to the very top. Getting back to ‘In Time’, Idy takes the listener on an emotional rollercoaster of love and loss, of finding the good, and ultimately, of finding peace. “Seems like I can’t make these nights turn off their lights, let go of my mind,” he sings. “But my own eyes, they’ve got nothing to hide, want to meet something mine in this world and time.” Yet again, Idy has proved himself an exceptional storyteller and lyricist, as well as an incredibly gifted artist… but we already knew that 🙂
Yon Idy just continues to get better and better! ‘In Time’ is an exceptional tune, and Idy’s storytelling ability is second to none.

What does the song mean to you?
To me, it’s a song about making peace with things that I’m not able to change from the past. It’s about trying to find the happiness that was covered up from the sadness or the pain of having a relationship ended. Most of all, it’s about realising that it’s not right to judge an experience by only looking at one particular time in it. I guess it’s life in general, it’s made from the good and the bad at the same time. This song is about the importance of not forgetting the good in situations.
What do you hope to achieve with this song?
I hope it brings joy to people. Although the lyrics may be a little melancholic, the song has a happy rhythm and melodies that go along with it. I’ve seen the reaction of people in the crowd when I sing it and they always brighten up and start moving and smiling. It’s a really nice feeling, getting that reaction from the crowd.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
It might be one of the fastest songs that I’ve written. Once I got the melody on the guitar, it’s like I knew instantly where the song was going to take me. Once I wrote it though, I had it in a recording of just me and my guitar, and I left it aside for a while. I knew I loved it, it was just a matter of finding the best time to publish it. Around autumn last year, when I started doing gigs again after the pandemic, the way the song made me feel and the reaction of the crowd made me realise it was the song that we needed, and so I started recording it right away.
What are your favourite lyrics in the song?
“In time, there’s nothing we can’t find, go with you my love, go through it all, in time”. It captures the point of the song in the best way possible. It’s about traveling back in time and having the same limitless joy you feel when you’re in love with the person, and then yet again, at the end, realising that that’s only possible by going back “in time”, in your head. However sad that may seem, the song is about finding peace and happiness in that as well. Some things happen in the time they’re supposed to happen and that’s the only place they belong in. But we can still feel the love and joy we had at that particular time.
