Vanessa Moussa is a Sydney-based artist and singer/songwriter who just released her incredible sophomore single called ‘Rebound’. As the follow-up to her well-received debut ‘Roadless’, ‘Rebound’ sees Moussa getting a touch experimental and inventive with her sound. The result? Pure magic! A bluesy, folky, soulful little tune that showcases just how much musical potential Vanessa Moussa actually has.
Lyrically, ‘Rebound’ explores deception, trusting one’s instincts, and ultimately learning from one’s mistakes. “You got me good, fooling around you made your rebound,” sings Moussa. “Turned my back for a second just a second now you got me, you got me good.” Working alongside industry professionals from Electric Sun Records and Paramount Productions, the talented musician is ready to unleash her new sound on the world. I can tell you one thing… we at Indie Top 39 will be first in line to listen!
Bluesy, soulful, folky, and fresh, ‘Rebound’ is a stunner from a seriously talented artist!

What does the song mean to you?
Without being too cliché, this song means a lot to me. I wrote ‘Rebound’ a few years ago, originally written just with vocals and acoustic guitar, but never did anything more with the song. I always kept coming back to it though. I had a huge connection with the original writing process of ‘Rebound’ as it ultimately felt like a song that, when released, would define my style and me as an artist.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
I wrote ‘Rebound’ about deception, and to help remind us that you should always listen to your initial instincts, learn from your mistakes and sometimes just simply admit that “you got me good”.
The style of ‘Rebound’ came from my love of Blues music; I was listening to Robert Cray’s ‘Blues Get Off My Shoulder’ and Teskey Brothers ‘Forever You and Me’ and just thought how cool the sound of those tracks were and how I had always dreamed of writing tracks like this. I got in contact with a few friends I had made while studying music at Sydney’s Australian Institute of Music, to record their instruments and parts completely remotely from their homes, which we later put together and built on to create a track that I’m super proud of!
When did you realise that music is what you wanted to do?
I started learning music at the age of 7 and continued throughout all my schooling as a big hobby of mine. I had originally always dreamed of working with animals though, as I am a massive animal lover. But, it wasn’t until my Year 10 music class and music teacher, that helped me fall in love with music all over again, this time with a passion that I knew I wanted to be a part of every single day.
Which Netflix series or movie would you like your music to be featured in?
It would be a dream for my track to be placed in film/tv! I can’t think of a placement off the top of my head but I would say ‘Rebound’ would be good in a film or series possibly where a woman is a protagonist, and she starts to take charge of herself, her own needs, wants and desires; or even a sassy character who’s moving on from a sticky situation etc. But if my track was picked up for sync music regardless, I’d just simply be over the moon!
