‘Good Like That’ is the brand new banger of a tune from Melbourne-based contemporary singer/songwriter Thea FitzGerald. It’s her first official release since 2019’s EP Building Blocks, and sees the artist create the perfect soundtrack to say farewell to the troubles that the world has faced over the last two years and to embrace freedom and liberation. ‘Good Like That’ is catchy-as-hell, melodic, and even a little bit sassy. There’s also a definite shoutout to contemporary R&B legends from days gone by.
The track was made in collaboration with Melbourne producers SB90 and Michael Cooper and features the silky smooth trumpet playing of Woody Sampson (House of Wood). It’s a song that, if I’m perfectly honest, is crying out for a live and loud audience! I get the feeling that Thea FitzGerald will be bringing down a few houses in the not too distant future.
‘Good Like That’ is a fresh, melodic, and breezy jam from a naturally gifted singer/songwriter.

What does the song mean to you?
This song allowed me to close a certain chapter of my life that no longer served me well, without buying into the regret and frustration we often feel when walking away from things. I truly believe that eventually there is always some positive to come from any situation, and regret and wishing things had been different forgets and negates that.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
For this song the verse lyrics came first, stemming from a very fiery burst of emotion I had one afternoon. They were initially part of a song I’d put together over a random YouTube beat. I was playing around with it and ditched everything except the verses and created new production which was completely different. After I’d got the new demo production down, I wrote a new chorus and Stuart (SB90) did the most incredible job of taking my demo and remaking it from scratch into something I could never have dreamt up myself!
What do you hope to achieve with this song?
I would love for this song to empower people to move on from situations that no longer serve them, but without the regret, disdain, and anger that often comes from parting ways from relationships or circumstances! I think there is something so powerful in being able to “pause” on a chapter without saying a black and white “goodbye”, and also in not wasting your energy on negativity when walking away – bring disco into EVERYTHING!
Please finish the sentence – Music to me is…
Truly magic. There is something about it that has the ability to bring people from all corners of the universe together, and to act as a beautiful sort of healing power in really trying times. For me, although I am frequently frustrated, panicky and overwhelmed by the creative process, comparing my work to others, and the uncertainty of the industry, there is this invisible string that will always pull me back to the beauty of music.
