‘Phantom’ is the brand new release, and follow-up to the highly successful ‘Suburban Summers’, from Texas-based indie singer/songwriter Sabela Bee. The hauntingly beautiful tune deals with themes of grief, loss, and ultimately acceptance, as Sabela (real name Maria Coraza), opens up her heart for the listener. A sad-sounding guitar meets the gentle drumming of Michael Galvez, and expertly arranged, eerie strings are gently scattered throughout the track. “You’re my phantom, the sweetest of faint memories,” sings the talented songstress. “Fades away but could never really truly leave.” Drawing on a wide range of influences – the likes of The Cranberries, Liz Phair, Jay Som, and Weezer – Sabela Bee has cleverly been able to craft her own unique and individual sound. It’s no surprise that the artist is increasingly growing her fanbase, and we at Indie Top 39 believe there’ll be a lot more to come from this talented musician.
‘Phantom’ sees Sabela Bee wearing her heart on her sleeve and offering up a hauntingly beautiful tune.

What does the song mean to you?
‘Phantom’ is about grief and acceptance. Longing for the loved ones who are not physically in our lives anymore. Whether we lost them through death, a breakup, or different paths in life. The memories will live on through you.
Who do you hope the song resonates with the most?
I hope that this song can connect with those who deal with deep melancholy and grief. To let them know that life and new memories are worth creating through the pain. For those who carry a heavy heart, you are not alone.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
I initially wrote this song about a breakup I had when I was younger. While reflecting on the heartbreak, I realized that it also opened doors of grief that I thought were closed at the time. When I experienced the emotions of losing a person through a breakup, I strangely re-experienced the emotions of losing a loved one through death. Writing ‘Phantom’ made me realize that grief truly comes in waves no matter how big or small.
