OK. This is it. I’m officially declaring 2022 the year of the debut! London-based singer/songwriter and producer Remi Charles recently dropped his first single, simply entitled ‘Hush’, and it’s a vulnerable, soulful, and genre-blending tune that has taken our collective breaths away at Indie Top 39. The electronic-based track, believe it or not, is the after-effect of COVID-19 and the worldwide lockdowns.
Unable to play with his band, and having lost his voice for nearly a year due to the disease, Charles used the time to reassess and reflect. The result is the beginning of his work as a solo artist, and in ‘Hush’, he’s produced one of the most dynamic, heartfelt, and original songs so far this year! Throw in Charles’ ridiculous vocal range and depth, and there’s truly no telling how far this talented musician can go. We absolutely cannot wait to hear what he gets up to next!

What does the song mean to you?
Over the course of the pandemic, I’ve had to reflect on my musical journey and life path, and made some pretty big decisions to say goodbye to things I was holding on to, in efforts to make a healthier change. ‘Hush’ is the closing of a chapter in my life, and the beginning of a new journey of self-discovery.
Who do you hope the song resonates with the most?
Anyone who has ever had to say goodbye, either to a loved one or to a part of themselves, in order to move on and find greener pastures.

A tool for self expression. Maybe like a sword. On some days it’s easier to wield than others. Other days, it’s pretty heavy.
