Irish-based synth-rock four-piece, Raging Sons, have just released their cracking new single ‘Square One’. As the follow-up to their previous hit ‘Breathe Easy’, ‘Square One’ firmly cements the band as a serious force to be reckoned with in the industry! Penetrating synth melodies meet diligent drums and intricate guitar work to form the foundation of ‘Square One,’ and the vocal performance of Fintan Tynan simply seals the deal.
Mastered by Robin Schmidt (The 1975, Sam Fender, Nothing But Thieves), the track is a call to arms that is, “partly about challenging those around you to fight for a collective cause,” says drummer Adam Reeves. Influenced by electronic-based music and bands like The Slow Readers Club and Depeche Mode, Raging Sons are quick to point out that everything is derivative of something, and that their “unique” sound is a mix of who they listen to individually and collectively. We at Indie Top 39 simply can’t get enough of this band, and eagerly await their debut album that’s scheduled for release next month!
‘Square One’ feels like the type of song Raging Sons have been striving towards, and they’ve absolutely knocked it out of the park!

What does the song mean to you?
A lot! ‘Square One’ is the fourth and final release off our upcoming debut album set for release on October 22nd. Lyrically, it’s a call to arms about challenging those around you to fight for a collective cause, and to persevere through internal conflict. Being the last song we recorded for the album, ‘Square One’ aptly represents the evolution in our sound across the recording process, from more stripped back gritty alt rock to enigmatic dark synth pop, and likely is somewhat of a window into our future.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
‘Square One’ was written by our front man Fintan late last year. The night before our very last studio session for our upcoming debut album, Fintan spontaneously played an acoustic version of the song during rehearsals after which there was a unanimous agreement from the rest of the band to record it.
What do you want to achieve in the next 12 months with your music?
We want to continue to enjoy what we’re doing; being friends, hanging out, writing, recording and playing live shows. We have internal goals as a band and lots of plans in the works, including more new material, but mostly we just want to continue to have fun with what we’re doing because, well, if there’s anything we’ve learned this past 18 months, it’s that life is short.
Please finish the sentence – Music to us is…
Everything! Both as avid music fans and musicians. As listeners it adds color to our lives and gives us inspiration. As producers it brings us, four individuals, together as a collective. It gives us a shared purpose and a sense of belonging.
