Texas-based indie singer/songwriter, Presley Duyck, recently released her brand new single ‘Juliet,’ a folksy, acoustic guitar-driven tune that is simply beautiful. Putting a spin on the classic tale of Romeo and Juliet, Duyck takes the listener on an emotional journey as she deals with young, forbidden love. “He promised her a life of love, something grander than she dreamed of,” sings Duyck. “So when he called her name, she agreed to run away.” Charming melodies and the effortlessly sweet vocals of the talented songstress are the order of the day on ‘Juliet,’ as Duyck draws on inspiration from her heroes – Joni Mitchell and Stevie Nicks.
‘Juliet’ is the young musician’s follow-up to her widely successful hit ‘Happy 22!’ and showcases an artist who is growing and maturing with each new release. We at Indie Top 39 can’t wait to hear what else she has up her sleeve!

What does the song mean to you?
‘Juliet’ is the classic story of young, forbidden love. Most of us know what it feels like to be in a relationship that others may not approve of. They may be too scared to take the leap because they can’t get the voices of disapproval out of their head. Their story is told through an indie-folk rock lens as we hear about the relationship and we are longing for them to be reunited.
Which Netflix series or movie would you like your music to be featured in?
I have two answers! I loved what Bridgerton did with using contemporary songs that we all know and love, and doing orchestral versions of them. It was so cool to recognize and hear these songs in the background of a period piece, so I think I would flip if I heard my music in one of their balls.
The other answer is the show You. It’s so creepy and I think the acting is just phenomenal. I love Victoria Pedretti, so I think I would also flip to hear my song in the back of a scene of her being a psychopath.
What does success mean to you?
Success to me means making a difference and leaving the world a better place than you found it. I want to make people’s lives brighter, and I find that the best way I can do that is through my art. My life has been changed by the artists I looked up to growing up, and I hope to be that for someone one day. Success is not about fame or money. I just hope to make music that makes people dance, cry, and scream at the top of their lungs while driving down the highway. If I can be someone else’s escape for three minutes, I am fulfilled.

The universal language of connection. Humans can feel music no matter the language, or even if there are no words at all! Somehow, we magically understand the feeling being conveyed, and it can influence our emotions and impact our everyday life. A stranger that lives halfway across the world, with a completely different life than mine, can write a song that directly applies to my life. Music heals. Whatever emotion I need to release, I can play a song that says what I need to hear, scream along, and feel a little less alone. It’s pretty beautiful how we can all bond over a collective experience.
