Presley Duyck first stole our hearts when she released ‘Juliet’ in September of last year, and she’s now just returned with an uplifting and hopeful indie-pop tune in the form of ‘Cold Together’. While the lyrical subject matter is deadly serious, Duyck is able to expertly juxtapose this alongside a catchy and optimistic soundscape. ‘Cold Together’ was penned when a close friend of Duyck’s was battling addiction, and the musician hopes it can send out a message of togetherness, of being there for one another, and of not suffering alone in silence. “I feel like we could all use a little boost,” she says. “And some hope of knowing that we don’t have to go it alone.” There’s something rather special about Presley Duyck and her songwriting ability. And, while it’s hard to put my finger on exactly what it is, we at Indie Top 39 believe she has an incredibly bright future ahead of her!

What does the song mean to you?
This song is about stepping out of your comfort zone and creating a safe space for those loved ones who are suffering, whether it be from addiction, depression, anxiety or sickness. This song was actually written while one of my dear friends was battling addiction.
Who do you hope the song resonates with the most?
Everyone who is struggling right now. I think we have all had our battles that we felt embarrassed of, or ashamed of, and where we didn’t want to bring other people down, so we felt like we had to face those battles alone. I hope this song resonates a little bit with everyone who has felt like they had to suffer alone and I would like for those people to feel a little less alone.
What inspired you to share the song with the world?
When it came to putting ‘Cold Together’ out there, I actually delayed the release of this song, and was not sure if I would end up sharing it with the world. I recently lost a friend to suicide and it felt like an upbeat song might not be appropriate, but after reconsidering everything that’s going on with the world right now, I feel like we could all use a little boost and some hope of knowing that we don’t have to go it alone.
What are your favourite lyrics in the song?
For me, my favorite lyrics are the chorus and title, “Let’s be Cold Together”. I was very intentional with my lyrics and how I worded them, as I wanted to symbolize stepping out of my own comfort zone to be there with someone else instead of portraying myself as some kind of superhero that could fix everything. It’s about meeting them where they’re at, even if that means you have to step into the cold with them. It feels a lot less dark and cold when you can hold someone else’s hand through those tough journeys.
