‘Cordelia’ is the latest single from Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jessica Flamand, who performs under the moniker of Posie. The musician had a rather busy 2021, releasing a string of singles that were extremely well received, and she finished the year off in strong style with ‘Cordelia’. The upbeat, playful, and enchanting tune sees Posie and her writing partner, Jeremy Rompala, weave a tranquil, hazy little fairytale about yes, you guessed it, a character named ‘Cordelia’! As for the inspiration behind the dreamy soundscape, Flamand said that she would, “go for walks in Silverlake. There’s a special period at dusk where magic seems to settle over the flowers and the houses. That feeling became the backdrop of the song.” Influenced by old school heavyweights like Stevie Nicks and Joni Mitchell, but also the newer generation like Laura Marling, we at Indie Top 39 see big things in Posie’s future!
‘Cordelia’ is a perfect, dreamy, and playful little pop tune from an artist who shows no signs of slowing down.

What does the song mean to you?
‘Cordelia’ feels like a little kingdom to escape into. I loved writing this song so much. I really feel like we captured the specific, high-concentrate vision I had for ‘Cordelia’ as a character and the world she lives in. The fruit trees and stone houses with stained glass windows, the rare beauty and shielded love. The track’s my way of going to visit her there.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
My creative process is different for every song that I write! I’m a very lyrically driven artist so usually I have to have a concept, or line, that resonates as a spark for a song. I’d actually had ‘Cordelia’ in mind for a few years. I love using unique female names for titles. My writing partner and I started a melody together that had the opening line “She’s heaven/she looks like a fallen angel” over it and I thought this might be where ‘Cordelia’ can fit. Immediately a whole visual soundscape came together of a medieval princess living in Los Angeles. I’d go for walks after writing sessions in Silverlake and the winding roads there have lots of fruit trees, stained glass windows, and eclectic stone houses that I’d picture her living in hidden away from the world.
What are your favourite lyrics in the song?
I really love the second verse as I think it reveals the most about what I’m trying to convey in the song. “A legend, she slips from your lips just like water/ running out the back down a path to the garden/ where ‘Cordelia’ learned how to build up her armor.” I like the playful way the first two lines connect.
Who do you hope the song resonates with the most?
Young women and girls who feel like they have a type of secret power to guard. They know their love is special and can relate to why ‘Cordelia’ locks herself away. So as not to let their shine be taken by those undeserving. I also hope it connects to the people who pine over them. It’s meant for those who recognize themselves in ‘Cordelia’, and those who are in love with her.
