‘Open Up’ is the brand new, synth-filled release from Los Angeles-based indie-pop songstress Palco. Working alongside producer David Turley, Palco penned the inspirational song for her sister as a source of strength and support. A song ultimately about survival and endurance, ‘Open Up’ has a dreamy, ethereal vibe to it. The chilled-out nature of the tune allows for the stunning and penetrating vocals of Palco to take centre stage. It’s a truly powerful vocal performance from the artist – something her fans have come to expect from her over the years. Drawing on a vast range of influences, Palco says her sound often gets compared to the likes of Halsey, Fiona Apple, and Lorde. I certainly hear the comparisons, but there’s also something completely unique, fresh, and distinctive about Palco that stands out! We at Indie Top 39 can’t wait to hear what she comes up with next!

What does the song mean to you?
I wrote this song for my sister. ‘Open Up’ is about grounding and rooting for yourself when life’s storms roll in – not shutting down, not shrinking, but opening up wide and standing in your strength and not losing yourself in dark times. It’s a survival song at it’s core.
Who do you hope the song resonates with the most?
I hope the song resonates with people who need to hear it, or anyone who thinks someone they love might need a little support or encouragement. I think it’s important to remind each other that on the other side of darkness is a bright and resilient human spirit.
What are your favourite lyrics in the song?
“I will be your iron lungs
I’ll take you to higher ground
Even when you’re far from home
I will carry you.”
That’s my heart talking to my sister. We live states away and I wanted her to know that when it feels like the world stops and she can’t breathe, I’ll be her lungs, and her legs, no matter where we are in the world.
