The Australian-based alternative pop star, Noralyn, recently released the final single from her forthcoming self-produced album, and we at Indie Top 39 have fallen pretty hard for it. ‘Fiction Borders’ is an irresistibly cinematic and powerful tune featuring haunting piano, stirring strings and the captivating vocals of the artist herself. A song about refusing to yield or back down to the messages being forced upon you by the world, Noralyn encourages the listener to, in her own words, “find the courage to resist… search for the truth and let it set you free.” As a classically trained pianist, Noralyn has been compared to dynamic powerhouses like Kate Bush and Tori Amos. Pretty good company if you ask me! With her debut full-length album scheduled for release in November, we can’t wait to hear what else this talented musician has in store.
‘Fiction Borders’ is a haunting and cinematic tune that will leave you speechless.

What does the song mean to you?
‘Fiction Borders’ is a song about refusing to submit to every message that the world pushes at you. It’s about finding the courage to resist the things that would leave you a victim or a prisoner; to search for the truth and let it set you free.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
Most often my songs come about while sitting at the piano, improvising music and lyrics simultaneously. I’ll usually get most of the song down during that initial burst of inspiration, then I focus on refining structure and lyrics. ‘Fiction Borders’ was written during one of these spontaneous writing sessions.
What are your favourite lyrics in the song?
“Truth seekers
They go running, running, running
Past the fiction borders
And I go stumbling, stumbling, after them…
After something real”
Which Netflix series or movie would you like your music to be featured in?
Maybe something with dystopian/fantasy/adventure vibes?
