Nadia Moon is an up and coming singer/songwriter based in Brighton in the UK. To be honest, though – she’s so much more than that! She’s a jazzy, soulful, supremely talented musician, who’s ready to take the world by storm. Moon just released her latest single, ‘Joanna’, and it’s the second song that the artist has graced us with from her upcoming debut EP. Now, Indie Top 39 readers will already know that we absolutely love genre-bending, experimental songs that simply cannot be placed in a box. Well… ‘Joanna’ is another prime example! It’s got elements of classic jazz, soul, pop, and even a little ’60s Motown tossed in for good measure.
A song about questionable late-night parties and the feelings that develop throughout them, ‘Joanna’ showcases Moon’s ability as a storyteller as well as a superb songwriter. We can’t wait to hear her upcoming EP!
‘Joanna’ is a jazzy, soulful, and outright genre-bending tune that we’ve had on repeat now for ages!

What does the song mean to you?
‘Joanna’ is the story of my accounts of being lured in many times by friends (pre lockdown) to eerie late-night parties where I didn’t know many people and recalling the exact emotions and thoughts that went through my head during. Every time I revisit the song, I get the same wave of dread that I felt realising it was 10 am, the sun is definitely up and I was still there wishing I wasn’t. Of course, at the same time I don’t regret these times as every experience adds something to your life, and in this case the inspiration to write a song.
Who do you hope the song resonates with the most?
I know for a fact that so many people, especially around my age (mid-twenties) have experienced the situation of ending up at some late-night do, thinking it’s the best idea at the time, but then getting hit by a wave at some point telling them ‘Woah I need to go”, but it’s too late by the time of realisation and you’re stuck now. I feel like the narrative of the track will strike a resemblance to anyone who has experienced this and gives them flashbacks and memories of such instances, as it did with myself whilst writing the song.
What are your favourite lyrics in the song?
Lose yourself to the night
Take my hand, hold it tight
‘Cause you won’t see the light
’til tomorrow
I feel like this phrase kinda just says it all: It’s the almost sinister way you get roped into the situation, with kindness to start off with to lure you in, but then the reality that once you’re in, you’re in for the long haul whether you like it or not.
What does success mean to you?
Success within what I would like to achieve is for people to enjoy the music I write and perform and relate to it. It can be on a small scale or internationally, but the point is that to bring joy to others in the work you create, regardless of being ‘famous’ or mega-rich. Richness doesn’t have to mean monetarily speaking.
