After the extraordinary reception that her Focus EP received at the end of last year, Atlanta-based R&B and soul-pop artist Mia Delamar makes her triumphant return with a heartfelt, groovy, and chilled-out tune in the form of ‘Cool’. Unashamedly influenced by the likes of Mary J. Blige, the late Aaliyah, and Ariana Grande, Delamar has worked on and honed her own distinctive sound that we at Indie Top 39 are falling pretty hard for.
Lyrically, Mia proves herself a more than competent storyteller as she sends out a message of self-love and knowing your worth. “Played me like a basic, you know I’m top tier,” she sings. “I could have helped out that lil’ wack career but you wanted something else, jokes on you baby you played yourself.” I’m quickly running out of superlatives to describe ‘Cool’, so please just do yourself a favour and give it a listen!
‘Cool’ is a fresh, heartfelt, and soulful tune from an artist who we’re falling hard for!

What does the song mean to you?
Sometimes people don’t see you and when they finally do, then they want to hang out, be your friend, date you and invite you everywhere. This songs means that you are special and any person would be a fool not to want to date or be around you. I hope people take away that they are IT and whoever passes them up will regret it. This song is about knowing your worth and not giving chances to those who couldn’t see your worth before you accomplished what you set out to do or came into whomever you were meant to be. It’s about loving yourself and knowing that other’s validation isn’t important.
What are your favourite lyrics in the song?
“Extending my deepest condolences, you fumbled me what can you show for it? Hard pill to swallow, see what you missed? Out of your league can you catch the drift?” These are my favorite lyrics because it really explains the heart of the song. I’m telling them that I’m so sorry that they missed their opportunity, and that they didn’t see my worth.
You fumbled me and yet you still are no better for it. You took a huge loss that you will never ever gain back. That fact is hard to come to terms with and now we’re no longer in the same league. I have surpassed you in every way possible and you would never be able to get me to like you again in your wildest dreams because it’s up for me, I’m on to bigger and better things. You should have seen what you had when you had it. I know my worth and I know I deserve better.
What does success mean to you?
Being able to do what you love and what you were born to do in excellence. Yes, the money and the recognition are perks, but those things are not something you can take with you when you leave this earth. Success is leaving behind a legacy that will inspire people for generations to come. Success is seeing your family and yourself, happy and enjoying life every day. Success is making God proud of me, because I did everything I could with what I was given. That is success to me.
What would your life be like without music?
I’m not sure what my life would be like. I’ve been singing since I could talk. Music has always been a part of who I am. Me without music would be unatural, forced. Yes, I excel at many things outside of my music, but nothing ever truly feels complete. In other areas, I feel like something is missing. However, when I’m making and performing music, I feel whole and in alignment with my purpose. Without music, I wouldn’t be me.
