Swedish-based indie singer/songwriter, Mats Dernánd, teams up with Spanish/German-based musician (and personal friend to Indie Top 39) Luna Keller to produce one of the happiest and most uplifting tunes we’ve heard so far this year. ‘We’ll be together’ is a folky, poppy little number that sees the musicians looking forward to lockdowns ending, borders opening, and things getting back to some sense of normality. “Everything’s been out of order, hearts on hold and shut down borders,” sings Keller. “I’ve been missing you forever, now I know we’ll be together.”
Despite having never met in real life, Dernánd and Keller’s musical chemistry is clear for all to hear, as their vocals intertwine naturally and beautifully with one another. ‘We’ll be together’ is, quite simply, a song that the world just needs right now. And all we can do is thank Mats and Luna for sharing it with us!
‘We’ll be together’ is a beautifully optimistic and upbeat tune that’s just what the doctor ordered! Thank you Mats and Luna!

What does the song mean to you?
To me, this song means freedom and joy. Maybe this is the happiest song I’ve ever written. And sometimes it’s just what you need.
What inspired you to share the song with the world?
The pandemic has caused so much concern and suffering. Although, of course, there is so much suffering left in the world, we should celebrate as much now as we did when it was going on. I wanted to write a song that helps us rejoice instead of just sighing in relief and then moving on as if nothing had happened. We owe it to ourselves to celebrate when we can, I think.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
‘We’ll be together’ is one of those song that was written in no time even though the production took a long time. When I added the backing vocals in the chorus, (the oh-oh-oh part), that works a bit like a call-and-response, I started to feel that this could be something.
What does success mean to you?
Touching peoples hearts. Streams, radio plays etc are nice and also very measurable and you can fool yourself into thinking that they are the right way to measure success. But to me, it means more to know that one of my songs really has connected with someone. I try not to make too many plans when I write music. I just do what I feel like. I guess that’s why my music spans a wide range of genres. I know it’s not so smart, but it’s fun. Having fun is absolutely a goal in itself.
