JYLDA (real name Gianna Gehlhar) has been traveling Europe experiencing different musical cultures to build her own unique sound. Growing up in Germany, she’s spent periods of her life living in California and now resides in London, where she’s curated a spellbinding live show.
We’ve been massive fans of JYLDA’s music and image for a while. 2019 was extremely creative year for Gianna as she released two singles ‘Torrential River’ and ‘Reeled’ that were accompanied by brilliant videos, debut EP ‘Twitch’ and handful or collaborations with other talented musicians.
Of course, those who were following our weekly Indie Top 39 chart saw that Jylda’s music was in and out of the chart for the bigger part of the year.
So it’s no surprise that we were really looking forward to a new single. Today is the day when “Jeopardy” was released and it looks like the beginning of a new chapter for extremely creative and colourful singer.
‘Jeopardy’ is a nuanced and powerful piece of electronic-pop production. It’s a track that showcases the extent of JYLDA’s creativity and her fearless pursuit of pop innovation.
Few days ago JYLDA teased us with a still from the video that will be released next week
Returning in 2020, JYLDA’s new single ‘Jeopardy’ takes on new meaning in a challenging time for us all. Produced in collaboration with classical composer Marino Arcaro, ‘Jeopardy’ is an exercise in brilliant simplicity. Built on a syncopated half-time groove, the release slowly introduces lush, analog synth elements, and experimental sounds, held together by JYLDA’s mysterious and melodic top line. On the new single, JYLDA states:
‘Jeopardy’ is a hymn to danger. Can you still take risks now, can you still dare, be bold and think big? While stepping back from our old life, we can change and unapologetically express ourselves. This song is a call for audacity — in life, in love and in creativity.
