‘Calm Before the Storm’ is the brand new soothing single from Dubai-based singer/songwriter Jonathan Lobo. Working with producer Aman Sherif, ‘Calm Before the Storm’ is an intimate and honest track from a musician whose story-telling abilities are simply too good to be ignored. Delicate keys and a gentle beat are the order of the day here, allowing for Lobo’s vocals to take front and centre. Originally written as part of a song-a-day contest, Lobo focuses on an all too familiar story – the story of a relationship that is coming to an inevitable and unavoidable conclusion. “I know I’ll love you forever, sings Lobo. “I know you won’t feel the same.” Inspired by the likes of Bon Iver, José González, and Ben Howard, Lobo has crafted a distinctive, exclusive sound that will stand him in good stead going forward.
‘Calm Before the Storm’ is an intimate and delicate piece of music from a story-telling extraordinaire.

What does the song mean to you?
The idea ‘Calm Before the Storm’ was part of a song a day challenge during October 2020 so completing, recording and releasing it has much personal satisfaction. The song itself is based on a fictional relationship that’s nearing an inevitable end but there are parts of it that relate to experiences in my life.
What’s your favourite lyrics in the song?
“The photos on the wall, they don’t say much at all. I see how you’re hurting inside.”
I’ve seen many homes with happy photographs on the wall. I wanted to paint this imagery for the listener before telling them how such photos don’t tell the whole story.
Which Netflix series or movie would you like your music to be featured on?
I think ‘Calm Before the Storm’ would be suitable for a drama or a romance series or movie. I’ve been watching The Good Doctor on Netflix recently and could see the song fit there too.
What would your life be like without music?
In all honesty, I think it would be very boring. It’s a part of most of my day to day activities so without it, it would feel like going about life without a soundtrack. Some of my greatest friendships were formed through music. And from an early age I found solace in writing music. While I don’t do music full time, I can only imagine it always being a constant in my life.
