‘Courage Up’ is the debut single from Jon Sandman, and the artist has already followed it up with several more, equally gorgeous, releases this year. I was happy to stumble upon this track recently and what ‘Courage Up’ and his other songs all have in common is an exceptional quality of recording. The whole track seems to breathe with life as your ears get to tune into the tiniest production details and appreciate those deeply resonant vocals. Expect to be washed with an abundance of atmospheric harmonies, pulsating textural synth details and respectably catchy, chant-like, indie-folk melodies. Despite being taken in by the sheer craftsmanship of the music as a whole, it is Sandman’s captivating, baritone-esk vocal that stole the show for me. Cloaked in a thin veil of delay and reverb, his lyrics draw you in and help to create the transient feeling that comes from two people reflecting on the fortuity of their fateful meeting. Get ready to bask in the rich glow of Sandman’s music, you can thank me later.
