The deep grumbly vocals contrast the instrumental phenomenally resulting in this cool, easy to listen to song. Despite being only a minute and a half long it manages to be emotional and set the mood. In a world that doesn’t slow down for anyone, this calm reprise is a welcome escape.
Many artists feel the need to fill silence with noise. Izi Phoenix however, prefers to lean into that aesthetic. Gentle and easy to listen to the various cadences wash over the listener like ocean waves; twisting beautifully with the easy-going instrumental. I adored how well the deep vocals floated over the supportive instrumental. Everything really tied together phenomenally bringing out the almost poetic atmosphere the rhythm section set. Not only was it pretty, but contemplative and easy to listen to as well.

What does ‘The Man I Met’ mean?
It’s the darkness in the eyes of someone you don’t recognise when you look in the mirror like a tiger in a cage stalking you letting you know who’s in control. I don’t want it to be a suprise again. In this song I can sit in it, be it, bring it out and put it away again. It’s no longer there waiting to pounce.
What does success mean to you?
Success is connecting with someone, bridging that gap and providing a path to a moment where they can be comfortable feeling what they need to feel. You open yourself up first performing and the audience comes to meet you in that space you’ve created together.
When did you realise that music is what you wanted to do?
I was 13 and it was that age old thing of when I first picked up a guitar, the world just fell away, there was nothing else left. Music holds you in a moment where you can see clearly. Everything else stops and you’re floating in this emotion.
What do you hope to acheive with this song?
To reach people. So much of my connection with life comes through music and if I feel this way others must too. To really reach someone is my hope.
