Ever since we heard ‘Anhedonia,’ we’ve been keenly following the steady progress of Los Angeles-based indie-rockers Indigo FM, and they just continue to go from strength to strength. Their brand new single ‘Daffodil’ is another cracking indie-rock tune that’s plucky, melodic, and catchy as hell! It has a serious The Strokes vibe to it, with the interlocking guitars and the gritty vocals of lead singer Esteban Obando. The song builds up to a crescendo and erupts into, as the band perfectly put it, “pure Britpop-tinged melodic goodness.” Lyrically, ‘Daffodil’ deals with themes of self-growth and, ultimately, the cyclical nature of life. “I suppose the lyrics were subconsciously about consoling myself,” says Obando. “Nothing lasts forever, not even the bad moments.”

What does the song mean to you?
‘Daffodil’ is a straight-up indie-rock track a la The Strokes with an ethereal and earthy melody that starts off intimate and dreamlike and explodes into pure Britpop-tinged melodic goodness. ‘Daffodil’ is a song that entices the listener throughout its peaks and valleys and takes you on a whimsical journey of self-discovery. The lyrical content deals with heady themes of growth and rebirth and the cyclical nature of life through the allegory of a daffodil blooming after a long winter.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
The song came to be when Connor came in with The Strokes like guitar riff and Esteban started singing over it. The lyrics came of their own accord and quite quickly too. We sent the demo over to Johannes who did most of the production and Patrick who laid down a sick bassline and voila!
What are your favourite lyrics in the song?
“Daffodil, crush the clouds into a ray of sun
Something from nothing is what we’ll become
Just like we hoped it’d be when we were young.”
What do you want to achieve in the next 12 months with your music?
We hope to reach an even wider audience, get some sync placements, release new music and play some festivals and showcases.
