‘Campfire’ just feels like the perfect way to round off the week. It’s the second release from London-based singer/songwriter Frankie Bird, and follows hot on the heels of her debut single ‘Younger Dreams’. The tune is a bright, airy, and summery little number, with Bird’s melodic yet commanding vocals coming into play straight away. I can’t escape the intense Dolores O’Riordan-vibes that I get from the young artist, and there’s a sincerity and authenticity to her sound that simply cannot be ignored.
Lyrically, Bird sends outs a message of positivity. Of staying true to one’s self, accepting who you are, and never changing for anyone. “Everybody says that you should lead and never follow. That’s why I am making my way out of here tomorrow”. It truly is a beautiful track from a highly talented musician who we at Indie Top 39 are rather excited about!
A super-sweet and summery little tune, ‘Campfire’ is just gorgeous from start to finish!
INDIE TOP 39
What does the song mean to you?
All of my songs are personal as I always write from real-life experience. ‘Campfire’ is about feeling like an outsider but accepting that and staying true to myself. I wrote it in my bedroom on guitar during the pandemic so it feels amazing to have it recorded with full instrumentation and released to the world.
What inspired you to share the song with the world?
I’ve been playing this song at open mics both in Reading and London for about a year and it’s always a popular one with people in the audience. That’s why I chose it for my sophomore single. It also has a summery vibe so I thought it would be a perfect choice to release this August.
What are your favourite lyrics in the song?
“Miles away I see the crowd and all of them are laughing, But I would never understand and so it’s not worth asking”. These are some lines from the last verse. I think they sum up how it feels to be distanced from your peers. Kind of a sombre image but they contribute to the emotion of the song.
What do you want to achieve in the next 12 months with your music?
I would love to build up a fan base and be able to tour different parts of the UK. To do this with a full band would be amazing as well. In terms of putting out music, I’m looking forward to releasing an EP in 2023 to share even more of my songs.
