‘Say Hello’ is the cracking new single from Dublin-based musician Stephen Cooper, who’s better known as the brains behind Fly the Nest. Known for that classic cinematic rock sound, ‘Say Hello’ expertly follows in the same vein, with a slow build-up that steadily progresses and gets more layered as it goes on. Working alongside producer Pete Doherty, (no, not that Pete Doherty), Cooper has described the track as having a “90s Oasis vibe” to it. Lyrically, it’s a bit of a departure from his previous work in that, ‘Say Hello’ sees Cooper exploring a more intimate subject matter. That well-known feeling of longing to have someone you love to return to you. “From the break of dawn, I’ll be waiting for you to call, just to hear your voice, just to hear you say hello.” It’s a fiery and infectious tune that we at Indie Top 39 believe will be on your Repeat Playlist very shortly!
Energetic, cinematic, and catchy-as-hell, ‘Say Hello’ is one of our favourite tunes so far this year!
INDIE TOP 39
What does the song mean to you?
Stephen: I wrote it in 2017 so it meant a lot to me back then. The feelings for the person I wrote it for have long expired but I still think someone could listen to it and feel how I did back then. Whether you’ve come out of a relationship and are longing for the person back in your life or if you lost someone who’s passed over it could mean something to you. In terms of willing to wait a life time to reunite.
What do you hope to achieve with this song?
I want it to be used in a movie/series where the scene/s match the tracks haunting vibe. I already have a well renowned music licensing company in Los Angeles Music BLVD Group sign the song for pitching to the latter.
What are your favourite lyrics in the song?
“Followed my heart one time and I found a bar of gold, Felt like a scene from a Disney book that I used to own.”
What would your life be like without music?
If any involvement was rules out, I would probably be working in the area of food as I’m a qualified Food Scientist with a Bachelors degree from UCD (University College Dublin)
