‘Set It Off’ is the thumping and explosive second single from Birmingham-based five-piece Finding Bella. The indie-rockers saw their debut release, ‘Good Right Now’, receive some serious attention, and they’ve followed it up with another absolute stunner! Melodic, anthemic, punchy, and in-your-face, ‘Set It Off’ hits all the right notes, and I can just imagine it being belted out to a large festival crowd. It’s upbeat, energetic, and catchy-as-hell!
Inspired by evenings out in their hometown, Finding Bella have done something rather special. They’ve created a tune that makes the listener feel as if they were on a night out with the band, soaking up the good vibes and letting it all out. It’s no surprise that the act has been labelled as “one of the big breakout bands predicted for 2022”, and we at Indie Top 39 wait with bated breath to hear what they conjure up next!
‘Set It Off’ is an anthemic hit! Melodic, infectious, and full of energy. We love it!
INDIE TOP 39
What does the song mean to you?
‘Set It Off’ was inspired by evenings out in the city, whether it be at live music venues or clubs/raves. The punchy title name and chorus reflect the energy in these nights out and the melody, build up and drum fills help quickly build the anticipation for this catchy hook.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
Oli: As with most of the tunes we play, I’d written a chord progression and lyrics which were then taken to the lads in the rehearsal room. All of us then add our parts and have a play with the structure. John: After ‘Good Right Now’ we mutually agreed this was the next banger. We took the song to Ryan at RML Studio in Wolverhampton, the same studio that recorded The Assists debut album, and smashed it out in a day. After that, we wanted a touch-up on the mastering, so we sent it off to the famous Abbey Road Studios to finalise the track for us.
What does success mean to you?
Ben: I think, to be honest, the success of this band really comes down to how popular our music is. We started this band with the overall passion to share our music, our personalities and our songs and we really thought this would be a good way to show people our love for music. And how good is it to know that those people who turn up to the gigs, message you on social media and keep supporting you are the people that love what you are putting out there? Speaking real, a tour of the UK would be fantastic, and something I think we would all see as a particular milestone for us.
Other than that, getting a tune in the charts would be great. And I think we always have wanted to put an album out, and if that was to reach high in the album charts that would be a massive success for us.For now, we all want to be getting bigger and better. And so far, that keeps happening. That is what success is for us right now. Keep sharing the music, keep writing, keep performing and keep the good vibes growing.
Please finish the sentence – Music to us is…
Liam: The universal language that allows all types of different people to communicate and enjoy common experiences. Of course, a lot of songs will have lyrics sung, probably in English, but the sounds that accompany the words can cause such a range of emotions that allows all types of different people to connect. Simon: I think that music is also an escape. It allows me to get lost playing an instrument, listening to a single or album, or feeling present at a gig. That feeling of being completely zoned into the sound/energy around you is why music is such a big part of my everyday life.
