‘Animal’ is the smashing, powerful, no holds barred debut single from Cardiff based blues-rockers, Fiasco. It’s a little louder than what we generally feature here at Indie Top 39, but trust us, it’s an absolute banger! The pure energy and unfiltered vigor of ‘Animal’ is truly a thing to behold. Lead by an intoxicating guitar hook, pounding drums and a catchy as hell chorus, I can’t help but feel that Fiasco are onto something here. It’s the first official release of any kind from the four piece, and they don’t hesitate to unleash a full on assault on the aural senses, with their effortless blend of bluesy, progressive rock. A track that mirrors the feelings of the band members at the time, ‘Animal’ is, quite simply, pent-up energy being released in its purest form – you’re just lucky enough to be along for the ride!
Are you sure this is their debut release? ‘Animal’ sounds like it comes from a band who’ve had their s**t together for a while!
INDIE TOP 39
What does the song mean to you?
‘Animal’ means a hell of a lot to all of us. We founded Fiasco over two years ago and ‘Animal’ is our first release so it’s been a long time coming. We’re all super happy that it’s out there and at the way that it has been received.
The track itself embodies the situation it was written in, which was massive amounts of (coffee fuelled) pent-up energy, confinement and waiting to be released. This energy made it a very fun live track. This, along with it being one of the first Fiasco songs, made it feel like the right choice for our debut.
Who do you hope the song resonates with the most?
We hope ‘Animal’ resonates most with those who miss live shows, as the song is about energy. Releasing it at this time is kind of a celebration of the return of live music, which is a major part of all of the band’s lives. If you’re a live music lover and have a passion for rock, ‘Animal’ is definitely a track for you.
What are your favourite lyrics in the song?
My favourite lyrics in ‘Animal’ are the chorus lines because I think they capture the essence of what I was trying to project concisely. The song as a whole is not too deep and we definitely have songs in the set that have more going on lyrically but ‘Animal’ is, in my mind, just fun and raw energy distilled.
What do you want to achieve in the next 12 months with your music?
We’re hoping to release a debut EP/Album with a couple of older and newer tracks on. Other than that, we’re desperately hoping that the UK live venues that are reopening remain open through the winter and into next year. We all love playing and watching live music. I literally live in the city just for the live scene, so to have that taken away and to lose some of the momentum we had was difficult for all of us. Of course, now it is back, we’re making the most of it, trying to fill out our gig calendar and hopefully within the next 12 months we would love to get on some festival stages.
