‘Songbird’ is the delicately beautiful brand new release from Australian-based singer/songwriter Darcy Kate. The stripped-back indie-folk tune is the third single from the musician’s upcoming debut album, and follows hot on the heels of previous hit ‘Run Away’. A song about chasing your dreams and never giving up in the face of adversity, ‘Songbird’ is elegantly arranged, allowing for the silvery-sweet vocals of the songstress to drift effortlessly over the instrumentals. “I wanted to write something as a reminder to myself to keep growing,” said Darcy of the tune.
Influenced by artists like Jewel and Katie Gray, the talented young musician has a serious knack for storytelling, and is able to create a nostalgic, “I’ve heard this song before,” atmosphere which is an incredibly rare and exciting thing! We at Indie Top 39 can’t wait to hear her forthcoming debut album!
A delicate, stripped-back, and nostalgia-filled track, ‘Songbird’ is a spellbinding effort from a talented young musician.

What does the song mean to you?
‘Songbird’ is a song I wrote for myself, and includes the words of encouragement and wisdom that I need to remind myself at times. It is a song about not giving up when obstacles come, and being true to myself.
What do you hope to achieve with this song?
I hope this song will bring others comfort as it has done for me.
What inspired you to share the song with the world?
I initially did not want to release ‘Songbird’ as it is so personal, but some close friends encouraged me to include it on the album. They explained that with everything going on in the world at the moment, a song about caring for and believing in yourself might be a nice thing to put out there. Since then, people’s responses told me that I made the right decision.
Please finish the sentence – Music to me is…
Expression. I often write music when I feel strong emotions and want to think things through and reflect. It is a beautiful process to experience a feeling and capture it with song. It is also the way I connect with people – often people in the audience will say that a song resonates with them, which is so powerful. I want my music to have a positive influence and lift others up.
