‘No Easy Way This Can Go’ is the first official release of any kind from Sydney-based drummer, producer, manager, and now solo artist, Thomas Roche, who goes under the moniker of CORAL THEORY. Serving as the first song from Roche’s upcoming EP, the track is a hazy, psychedelic, dream-pop little number that is unashamedly influenced by the likes of Slowdive and Tame Impala. Atmospheric and full of warmth and soul, ‘No Easy Way This Can Go’ details the final chapters of a relationship coming to an end. “I know that it’s coming soon, know what I need to do, but do I have the strength needed to follow through?” asks CORAL THEORY. Having written and recorded the entire tune in his Sydney bedroom, Roche enlisted Grammy Award-winning mastering engineer William Bowden to work his magic on the song. The result – another superb psychedelic track coming from down under!
‘No Easy Way This Can Go’ is a cracking debut release! Warm, psychedelic, and dreamy, it’s just what the doctor ordered.

What does the song mean to you?
The song depicts the final stages of a relationship, be it with a friend or lover when one party has finally realised that the two of you are doing more harm to each other than good and it’s time to pull away. It won’t be easy but you know for both your sakes it must be done, à la: “I don’t regret but sometimes I question if it was all worth it”. Its also the first single by myself I’ve put out so its the culmination of alot of hardwork.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
The song actually originally started as a university assignment. I needed to submit a song for a unit and as it progressed further and further I started thinking “Hey this isn’t half bad.” So when the unit finished I re-recorded everything to a higher standard and boom I had a single ready to go.
What do you want to achieve in the next 12 months with your music?
Over the next year I am aiming to release a number of singles, an EP titled ‘Monotone Vibrations’ and get my mates together to play some live shows around Sydney. My other band Memory Motel is about to drop its second single so hopefully I can juggle all this at once.
