Hamburg-based singer/songwriter Heiko Ritt is better known to his fan base by his moniker Chasing Tales, and he’s just released ‘The River,’ the incredible first single from his upcoming EP, TWIAD/BP (This world is a dark/beautiful place). Seamlessly blending elements of electronica, indie-rock, and dream pop, ‘The River’ is unlike anything I’ve heard in a while – and I mean that in the best possible way! It’s such a fresh and unique tune from an artist who’s clearly not afraid to get experimental and innovative.
Through the tragic tale of a young couple’s deaths, ‘The River’ also carries an anti-war message, as well as the need to protect our planet at all costs. As for the musician himself – well he’s not just a talented songwriter, but a gifted storyteller as well. We at Indie Top 39 can’t wait to hear his soon to be released EP!
*Chasing Tales’ brand new single, ‘Burn This City,’ will be out Friday!
‘The River’ is one of the freshest and most original tunes I’ve heard in a while! We want more!

What does the song mean to you?
First and foremost, ‘The River’ is a tragic love story, but it is also carries an anti war message and, while it zooms in to the life and death of a young couple, the song reflects on how irrelevant and small our individual stories are compared to the history of the world. The planet will outlive us after all.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
My creative process is very much influenced by emotions and my state of mind. Lyrics are usually my way of processing feelings, letting go of certain emotions, working through trauma, thoughts or conversations that stuck with me. That´s how ‘The River’ and the other songs on TWIAD/BP came to be. They all came together after thinking about societal conflicts, fears and shortcomings, things about the world we live in that make me sad or angry.
What does success mean to you?
Most people measure success by money or fame. I don’t. I want to live my life as an artist and traveler and ideally inspire some people and make lives better. I measure success by the things I get to create, the things I get to experience and the stories I get to tell my grandchildren one day. Money and a career is just one way of making things happen but it means nothing without a purpose.
Please finish the sentence – Music to me is…
The love of my life. Including all the ups and downs, the fights, the struggles.
