‘Down This Road’ is the brand new release from Glaswegian-based alternative indie rockers, Black Star Jackals. The follow-up to their incredibly successful hit ‘Party People,’ ‘Down This Road’ maintains the band’s signature, high-energy sound. Featuring smooth, infectious bass lines, thumping drum beats, and gritty guitars, ‘Down This Road’ is a dynamic and potent banger. The anthemic tune examines the dangers of toxic relationships. Not just with others, but with our own internal demons as well. “Don’t take me down this road, ‘cos I know where it goes,” sings lead vocalist Kieran McFarlane. “I won’t go down this road, I’m better off alone.” Recorded at Venice of the North studios, the band credit the production team for bringing a new intensity and depth to their sound. With a debut EP scheduled for release very shortly, we at Indie Top 39 can’t wait to hear what Black Star Jackal’s offer up next.
‘Down This Road’ is a powerful, infectious, anthemic tune from a seriously gifted outfit!
INDIE TOP 39
What does the song mean to you?
‘Down This Road’ explores the dangers and negativity of toxic relationships, both with others and our own inner demons. The song can be seen as a message of defiance, spoken both out loud to another person or even as an inner monologue, reminding ourselves to not repeat old habits that can lead us into bad habits and down a dark path.
It is ultimately a positive song about finding the inner strength to say no and become a better person.
Who do you hope the song resonates with the most?
Anyone that feels like they’re in a relationship or situation (whether that be with someone else or even themselves) that is leading them towards a place they don’t want to be. We’ve all been in toxic relationships and we all have our vices which return to haunt us now and then. This song is ultimately about fighting back and overcoming these things and coming out a stronger and better person on the other side.
What do you want to achieve in the next 12 months with your music?
Well, considering what a monumental disaster the previous 12 months have been thanks to covid, our main aim is to regain the momentum we had pre-lockdown and begin to build our fan base and get our music in the ears of as many people as possible! We’ve got our debut EP coming out very shortly which is really exciting and a real tick off the bucket list. Our ultimate long term goal is to bring bands and rock music back into the mainstream like it was in the 90’s and early 00’s and we feel that there is a genuine hunger for it.
What does success mean to you?
We’ve never had any specific major target that we have to achieve in order to feel successful. For us it’s all about the mini successes along the way. You know, things like doing your first gig or releasing your first single. Getting over 1k streams for the first time. Then 10k. Then 20k and so on. Getting to play sold out shows. Getting to do mini tours. These are all things that we’ve achieved so far and these ‘mini’ successes are all part of the stepping stones of the never ending journey, which is ultimately what it’s all about for us.
