‘The Rain’ is the ambient, entrancing, and cinematic new tune from Norway-based dream-pop artist Nikoline Christensen, aka AYKO. Written in her father’s cabin in the south of Norway, ‘The Rain’ is AYKO’s first release of the year, and her second release ever! I don’t think I’ll be alone in saying, it was well worth the wait! The track is simply beautiful. Haunting. A little bit eerie even. But undeniably beautiful.
Christensen’s vocal performance also deserves a special mention. Filled with emotion, honesty, and vulnerability, the talented songstress guides you through a meditative and thoughtful journey. “The quietness surrounding us, with stars appearing over us,” she croons. “And suddenly we are falling down, beneath the moonless sky.” AYKO wrote, produced, and composed ‘The Rain’ single-handedly, so she truly is something of a triple threat in the industry. We at Indie Top 39 can’t wait to hear what she brings out next!
‘The Rain’ is one of the most alluring, cinematic, and hauntingly beautiful songs we’ve heard in ages.

What does the song mean to you?
‘The Rain’ was actually one of the first songs that I finished writing. I wrote it at my father’s cabin six years ago. I was on vacation and trying to relax, but my head was spinning and I needed to do something. I started writing about the weather that was raging outside. I was looking out the window. Looking at the storm that was approaching and I felt really tiny compared to the weather and the world. The song is about the feeling you get when you really take time to take in what’s around you and let your surroundings steer your mood and your feelings.
Which Netflix series or movie would you like your music to be featured in?
I would truly love for ‘The Rain’ to be in a really atmospheric, dark crime series like the Scandinavian series Broen or the really creepy and cool series Dark. Of course, it would be awesome if the Netflix series The Rain would have another season and would add my song.
Please finish the sentence – Music to me is…
A way of writing down feelings that don’t necessarily come with words but come with atmosphere and ambience.
