‘City Vibes’ is the unbelievably sweet and gentle new single from musician, author, and interpreter Alice June. Based in Italy, this is June’s second release, and serves as the follow-up to her incredibly successful debut ‘Waterfall’. A delicate acoustic guitar gets ‘City Vibes’ underway before the artist’s airy and soothing vocals make their introduction. Lyrically, June describes a conversation between two people who are caught in the magical atmosphere of a large, bustling city as the sun slowly goes down. Everything about the tune is just beautiful, peaceful, and tranquil.
An international track in every sense, June worked alongside Bat for Lashes drummer Sarah Jones and English singer/songwriter Anna Calvi, amongst many other talented musicians, to craft her new single. She draws on inspiration from acts like Florence + the Machine and London Grammar, and we at Indie Top 39 get the feeling that she’s about to blow up in a big way!

What does the song mean to you?
I love the magic atmosphere of ‘City Vibes’. I’ve imagined a dreamy atmosphere and a conversation between two people, surrounded by the colours, the sounds, and the magic vibes of the city right before the evening comes. So I needed music that could create an atmosphere, ethereal and concrete at the same time. Every time I listen to it, I perfectly go into those vibes and I hope the listeners too.
Who do you hope the song resonates with the most?
People who are in need of a connection with a new place, maybe those who have just changed home and city. I hope they’ll be able to see the good things in the new place and also to find someone with whom to spend some time in good company as the song describes. Also, I hope people will listen to it while travelling because I think it has the right vibes for it.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
I have different approaches. Sometimes, like in the case of ‘City Vibes’, it all came starting from an emotion that I wanted to describe. I wrote the lyrics after a long walk in Milano. I was so inspired by the vibes of the city that I wanted to transfer those emotions immediately into music. So as soon as I could I started to write it down. This is how ‘City Vibes’ was born: emotions, lyrics and then melody.
What would your life be like without music?
It would be a half-life and for sure a very sad one. Music heals both when you listen to it and when you create it, and it accompanies important moments of our lives.
