Today we are starting a brand new series NEW MUSIC SUNDAY. We hope that it will turn into a tradition as every Sunday we will handpick the best new releases from independent artists.
AyOwA » First Frost
Arguably one of the most experimental and textured releases that we’ve been treated to this week, “First Frost” is incredibly graceful in its sound. The duo has been creating ambient pieces for a few years now, but few previous tracks come as close to “First Frost”, in terms of having such a beautiful progression, and such a serene atmosphere.
Daddy Was a Milkman » Liar
The newest track from Daddy Was a Milkman, “Liar” takes far more of an acoustic and soulful approach than the artists earlier material, in which he went down a more ambient path. The almost epic mood that this track creates really presents a promising change in musical direction and I must say that the sheer splendour and beautiful guitar licks of “Liar” have really gotten me interested.
Finlay » Evolution
The second single to be released by Finlay, “Evolution” sees the artist convey emotion really successfully in his vocals. Mixed with the progressive nature of the bittersweet instrumental, and you have a very immersive track, which does its title justice.
Marti West » Out Of My Head
On the surface, the musical style behind this track reminded me a little of Tame Impala, with its dreamy vocals and ambient elements. However, I also really enjoy the cool, wintery nature of this track, which makes it feel like a fitting listen for this time of year.
Oscar Anton » Down
I love the almost nostalgic dance-like style of this tracks instrumentation. It carries a very summer-like atmosphere with it, along with incredibly upbeat energy. Part of the newly released January Pack, this track wouldn?t be the earliest example of Oscar Anton bringing forth the same kind of upbeat and energetic style. However, “Down” definitely feels like a step further in the right direction.
Reba » A Secret I’ll Never Tell
After releasing her first EP on the 1st February, Reba has already displayed quite a layered, colourful, and fleshed-out indie-pop sound. While a big bulk of this EP consists of singles which were released prior, there was still some great new sounds to be found, with the cream of the crop being “A Secret I’ll Never Tell”. This track is arguably one of the most upbeat points in the EP, as well as one of the most enjoyable moments.
Saphira » Beauty Is A Moment
This track definitely piqued my interest from the very get-go, thanks to just how whimsical the melody is, both in terms of the diverse and rich instrumental, and the animation of Saphira’s vocals. An incredibly dreamy and theatrical track, but unique above all else.
We have picked only seven songs that stood out this week, however below you can find the whole list that will be updated every single Sunday.
