INDIE TOP 39
If soulful vibes are your thing, we just found a record you’ll love. Hailing from the culturally fertile Australian lands, Billy Reeves is the latest in a series of young hip-hop talent pushing the genre forward. In this case, he teams up with fellow Melbourne creative IJALE to deliver a heavenly tune, ‘CAPRI MOON’. Reeves’ fast, thick flow finds its perfect home in the heavily sampled instrumental, channelling soul influences and sharing a certain lo-fi flair. Yes, it is soulful. But it also contains the classic rap ‘bite’, coupled with witty lyricism explored from a personal point of view. Recommended!

Evran » I Lie Awake at Night and Wait for You
The result is astounding: ‘I Lie Awake at Night and Wait for You’ – the project’s latest effort – is musical gold, especially if you are in your early 30s
INDIE TOP 39
We couldn’t believe his vocal tone was that good, the first time we heard the track. But then, upon replaying it, it was clear we had stumbled upon something special. Hailing from Norway, Evran explores the guitar-pop sound of the early 2000’ (think Coldplay), while borrowing elements from more alt-rock references. The result is astounding: ‘I Lie Awake at Night and Wait for You’ – the project’s latest effort – is musical gold, especially if you are in your early 30s. Feeling nostalgic? Perhaps. Evran’s clean, luscious guitars provide the perfect sonic frame for his poignant, expressive and alluring vocals, not afraid to engage in technically proficient melodies. An absolute gem! Recommended!

Tomorrow’s Child » Spectres of Summer
His unique sonic explorations take on everything, from cerebral electronica to ethereal leftfield, passing by ambient and avant-garde sensibilities
INDIE TOP 39
Maintaining a secretive identity around the project, British producer and artist Tomorrow’s Child has been a sort of ‘best-kept-secret’ in our notebooks for quite a while. His unique sonic explorations take on everything, from cerebral electronica to ethereal leftfield, passing by ambient and avant-garde sensibilities. Back this week with ‘Spectres of Summer’, the English talent reiterates his strong aesthetic, based on a holistic and pure approach to music. We are listening to Tomorrow’s Child unfiltered, intimate music output: blending 90’s rave influences with more poised, luscious tones, he creates a sort of future nostalgia. Recommended!

Muzzy Fossa & Wish Queen » sub rosa
‘sub rosa’ reveals the more poppy side of Wish Queen, although more than a side, this could very well be the main course
INDIE TOP 39
Who is Wish Queen? It’s a good question. Debuting last year with ‘Coast to Coast’, the Cleveland-based talent had us hooked to a unique brand of dream pop infused with psych references. But then, fast forward a year, and she’s gloriously back with another exquisite musical piece, the disco, retro-flavoured gem ‘sub rosa’. A collaboration with fellow Ohioan Muzzy Fossa, the track reveals the more poppy side of Wish Queen, although more than a side, this could very well be the main course. Channelling old-school french house and retro synthesizers, the song is a triumphant banger, featuring a chorus that will have you sing along in no time. Welcome back, Wish Queen.

Yusufyoko » Love Me Then
There is an alluring shade of mystery surrounding Yusufyoko. His artistry instantly caught our attention, both for its aesthetic peculiarity and musical eclecticism
INDIE TOP 39
There is an alluring shade of mystery surrounding Yusufyoko. Describing himself as a “nomadic figure constantly living in isolation in some of the most luxurious spaces of Berlin, Montreal, NYC & Philadelphia”, his artistry instantly caught our attention, both for its aesthetic peculiarity and musical eclecticism. Debuting earlier this year with ‘Room #405’, the American talent is now returning with ‘Love Me Then’, a luscious slice of kaleidoscopic sonic goodness, marking its own path in an over-generalized music landscape. Blending references far and wide, the record is sultry, intimate, and groovy, blending R’n’B and hip-hop with Avant-Gard-ian attitude. Don’t sleep on it, recommended!
