Ella Gilbert » Come Over
Sometimes a song is all it takes to turn a bad day around, and that song just might be ‘Come Over’
INDIE TOP 39
Australian-based Ella Gilbert is back and sounds as lovely as ever on her newest release, ‘Come Over’. Textured with warm backing vocals, strings, and harrowing bass lines – this single is definitely one you don’t want to miss. Vocals are delicate and carry the sweet melodies with ease, adding to and enhancing whatever was happening behind them. Everything is relaxing and comfortable. Nothing comes out of the blue, instead opting to continue the light easy-going mood. It was intimate, and just beautiful all around. A phenomenal release, and one of my favorite feel-good songs this year.

CXL MXCK » Modern Day Romance
Loud, proud, and unashamed – the energy on ‘Modern Day Romance’ is awesome
INDIE TOP 39
Excitement and energy are just two words that come to mind when listening to British punk rock musician CXL MXCX’s newest release, ‘Modern Day Romance’. Between the versatility and diversity of different, it kicks ass. Easily transitioning from the thin textured verses to the huge chorus’. The rhythm section’s constantly changing grooves allows vocals to soar and help their passion push the song along. From the drum fills to persistent electric guitar there was always a voice doing something interesting. When paired with high-energy vocals, it is no surprise this song made the list this week.

Alba Rose » Holding On
Alba Rose continues to sound elegant and easy-going on her new release, ‘Holding On’
INDIE TOP 39
The cool, jazzy vibes give ‘Holding On’ by Alba Rose, an almost coffee shop atmosphere. Easy-going vocals suit the instrumental, playing off whatever’s going on almost conversationally. Incredible vocals are elevated by a rhythm section that is perfectly in sync with the energy and groove. Everything locked together through the different moods of the song. From the easy-going, upbeat into to the atmospheric bridge it all provides a wonderful foundation for the sweet vocals. Both the lyrics and melodies seemed playful, yet easy-going and comfortable. They’d expand the mood, yet seem familiar and comfortable through the entirety.

Alexia Rev » Drop Down
Drop Down sounds like something from a dream met dance music
INDIE TOP 39
Atmospheric energy melds with the upbeat dance instrumental phenomenally on Alexia Rev’s new song ‘Drop Down’. Intimate lyrics float alongside the easy-going groove. Sometimes supported by synths, while at others delicate piano chords. No matter what is happening in the instrumental, however, Rev sounds effervescent and in the pocket. While the song experiments with other sounds and melodies, it never loses that central, pivotal groove. Plus it manages to do all of this without the lyricism taking a hit. Everything came together to create an awesome, exciting song that you’re not going to want to miss.

Haleigh Bowers » Not Your Girl
Never compromising herself, Haleigh Bowers delivers another phenomenal release.
INDIE TOP 39
‘Not Your Girl’ is unapologetic. Haleigh Bowers sounds powerful and confident through the myriad of energies. Sometimes it sounds slightly country, other times slightly rock, but manages to be exciting and emotionally charged for the entirety. Melodies moved wherever they pleased over an instrumental that had their back entirely. The intimate lyricism added to the sense of power and strength. One of my favorite parts of this song was the friendly, almost happy approach to telling someone to go away. Instead, they recognize “I know you mean well, but…”. Bowers sounds elegant, confident, and fed up on this fantastic new release.

Jennifer Silva » Purgatory Road
From beginning to end, ‘Purgatory Road’ commands attention
INDIE TOP 39
All it takes is the opening chords to know that Jennifer Silva’s newest release ‘Purgatory Road’ is going to be powerful. By the time the delicate vocals enter the song is already dripping with emotion. Harrowing melodies deliver intimate lyrics. Supported by a restrained rock band, surprisingly heavy for the songs light texture. Although the texture thickened and vocals grew, the band never lost that controlled sound. The slow build was awesome, not only did it give energy but it showed off the bands restraint and versatility as well. A must listen for anybody looking for depth and lyricism in their music.

Matt Monsoor » Galloway
‘Galloway’ is relaxing, pretty, and sure to leave you feeling good
INDIE TOP 39
Matt Monssor sounds easy-going and mellow on his new song ‘Galloway’. Although it’s totally unique, it feels warm and oddly nostalgic. Maybe it’s the bouncy bass parts or easy-going vocals, but no matter what it is – it gives the song its feel-good aesthetic. I loved the playful backing vocals. Although sparse, whenever there, they gave ‘Galloway’ personality and texture. Similarly, counter-melodies in the instrumental helped give structure, while giving it enough interest to stand on its own. The washed-out sound helps bring the vocals forwards in the texture without overshadowing the diverse rhythm section.
