While last weekend was full of extreme Summer warmth, things are seemingly getting back to a more overcast norm. But despite that holiday heat now behind us, we had been blessed with a shed-load of awesome new tunes. In this week’s list, we will be covering 10 of our favourite new bops that this week has had to offer. So let’s dive right in…
Track of the Week »
Kalyja Rain » A’19
The incredibly talented singer-songwriter Kalyja Rain has been no stranger to wowing us before here at Indie Top 39. After her single ‘Mile High” became our favourite track of 2019, she had also released another brilliant single earlier this year, titled ‘Gold Teeth’. We were also very happy that Kayja managed to join us in this week’s live IGTV chat.
But with her brand new single ‘A’19’, Kalyja Rain easily became our track of the week. Starting off with a very raw and warm atmosphere, additional layers of sound ebb and flow throughout the track, ultimately becoming more apparent as the track progresses.
There is something about ‘A’19’ that feels so anthemic, that we feel as if we’ve known the track for ages, and we deem it an instant classic.

Chavis Chance » Call Me
After releasing his debut single ‘Admit It’ in 2019, the fuser of folk, rock, and soul that is Chavis Chance has been releasing productively with a handful of singles this year. The fifth, and newest of his 2020 singles is none other than ‘Call Me’. To us, this sounds like a much more stripped back tune than leans more heavily on both folk and soul than on rock.
We are in love with the lullaby-like smoothness of ‘Call Me’, which absolutely oozes with indulgence.

Fintan McKahey » Goodbye
The second single to be released this year by low-fi indie artist Fintan McKahey, ‘Goodbye’ is immensely indulgent, warm, and nocturnal in its sound, mood, and atmosphere. This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard this kind of sound from McHahey, but ‘Goodbye’ feels a lot more sleek and polished, which only helps us more with feeling every moment of this gorgeous anthem, which tells a story of begging for one last chance at love.

George Holliday & Isaac Tyler » Young & Free
We have been thoroughly enjoying what music producer George Holliday has blessed us with so far in the year of 2020, namely with tracks like ‘All Drained Out’ and ‘Drop By’. ‘Young & Free’ feels incredibly reminiscent of those special childhood moments that we have likely all had at one point or another. We cannot get enough of the merry and heartful sound of this awesome new track.
George Holliday and Isaac Tyler create an especially wholesome and nostalgic tune.

Gillian Heidi » desperate
Boston songstress Gillian Heidi hits us with a remarkably deep and ambient sound which sets the foundations for her latest single ‘desperate’. The more minimal approach to the production truly allows Gillian Heidi’s vocals to shine brilliantly as they become the primary focus. ‘desperate’ is one of those tracks which was made to show off a top-notch vocal range, which is certainly something that can be applied to this amazing artist.

Heavyman » Pigs
From the very moment that Heavyman’s ‘Pigs’ commences, we knew we were in for an awesome and badass rock experience. We love the qualities that this track has, in which it almost feels like the kind of track that you’d expect in the early noughties. We also recognised quite an uncanny resemblance of Queens of the Stone Age, which we wouldn’t be surprised if they were a heavy influence behind this track. But familiarities aside, this track stands as an incredibly engaging experience all on its own.

JØAN » Lights in the Shadows
The badass female duo from the US definitely seems to be making moves with the release of their third original single. We have been big fans of the empowering presence they emanate, and that level of empowerment continues with “Lights in the Shadows”. However, where this single stands out, is with its more slow-paced, softer, and much deeper aesthetic.
‘Light in the Shadows’ show that JØAN is capable of crossing between different moods and styles while pouring their empowerment into every track they put out.

Macajey » Walkin’
After taking a short break in 2019, the guitarist, engineer, and producer that is Macajey is seemingly getting a new project underway. ‘Walkin’’ is the second 2020 single which perfectly embodies the psychedelic and folk-tronic style that he has been known for, and we found ourselves easily getting lost in the highly indulgent yet equally engaging sound.

Megan Lara Mae » Alright
Experimental electro-pop artist Megan Lara Mae is somebody who we at Indie Top 39 have been supporting for a while. ‘Alright’ is absolutely bursting with colourful vibrance, and the rhythm allows this song to effortlessly become an anthem to dance your socks off to.
We might even go as far as to say that ‘Alright’ is one of the most fun tracks to date from Megan Lara May.

Prïnceps » Oh So Fun!
‘Oh So Fun!’ is the second original 2020 single release from London-based electro-rock duo Prïnceps. And much like their earlier track ‘Nostalgia’, this new tune carries forward their intense and gritty electro-rock aesthetic. As a result, “Oh So Fun!’ also carries that sense of rawness that makes us dream of witnessing it live.
The energy that ‘Oh So Fun!’ creates, is an intense system-shock which we cannot get enough of.
