Hello Indie Top 39 family! Another great week full of awesome releases. Every single week I find myself overwhelmed with all the good music coming out that narrowing it down to just 7 is sometimes just impossible. That’s why this week there’s 8, enjoy!
Francesca Guerra » Summer
Powerhouse vocalist Francesca Guerra sounds phenomenal on ‘Summer’
INDIE TOP 39
Busy percussion and long synth pads set a perfect foundation for Francesca Guerra to soar on her latest song, ‘Summer’. Powerful and cool they never falter or lose the easy-going energy established right away. Sounding strong through both the quiet, low energy parts as well as the huge chorus’, Guerra makes it sound easy. Although chaotic at points, the instrumental never detracted from the main melody. Instead, it seemed to help build presence. Sometimes there would only be a few important voices, while at others there was a choir of different sounds working to serve the vibe as a whole.

Cormac Looby » Hard-Wiring
‘Hard-Wiring’ will have you smiling and grooving along as well as pondering life and its twists and turns.
INDIE TOP 39
Warm trombones open ‘Hard-Wiring’ off is a unique and cool way. When Cormac Looby enters, his vocals are playful and match the energy perfectly. Not only that, but they show off Looby’s storytelling phenomenally. The different moods come and go, transitioning between one another seamlessly. Although the lyrics reminisce on times come and gone, there’s an uplifting, excited energy that pushes everything along. Even the lows have that underlying happiness that keeps everything feeling hopeful. Looby does a fantastic job capturing the feeling of something bittersweet. Although there’s regret and longing for the past, there’s also acceptance and joy for the future.

Dionne Sturdy-Clow » I Could Be Somebody
From the get-go, ‘I Could Be Somebody’ captures your attention
INDIE TOP 39
The dedicated rhythm section on ‘I Could Be Somebody’ allows Dionne Sturdy-Clow to demand attention without getting in her way. She floats over the easy-going instrumental effortlessly, never losing energy or the groove. Reminiscent of the days of Rock N Roll, ‘ I Could Be Somebody’ kicks ass. The vocals are a perfect blend of nostalgic and modern sounds. I loved how easily they controlled the vibe without ever really seeming like they were trying that hard. The relaxed and effortless delivery matched the tone of the song to a T showing off Dionne Sturdy-Clow in a phenomenal light.

Helen » Bitter Bitch
‘Bitter Bitch’ will have you singing along by the final chorus
INDIE TOP 39
Who doesn’t love a funky bass groove? ‘Bitter Bitch’ by Helen is funky and powerful. Unrelenting vocals punch through the groove easily and confidently. Whether singing the chorus or rapping through one of the verses, Helen embodied cool. The in your face lyricism grabs your attention, and leaves you wanting to dance. Perfect both for driving over the speed limit (although I don’t condone it) and a party. You can’t let the people around you pull you down, and life is too short for people who aren’t going to be good to you.

Mat Hunsley » Do It Anyways
As I’ve come to expect from Mat Hunsley, ‘Do It Anyways’ is beautiful and enchanting
INDIE TOP 39
Easily leading the energy of ‘Do It Anyways’, the UK based Mat Hunsley continues to impress. The type of song that sounds like a hug feels, this latest release shows off Hunsley’s depth as an artist. Supported by an instrumental that leaves plenty of room for the vocals, there’s never a low moment. Poetic lyrics drift between different energies sounding comfortable and confident. One of my favorite parts about this song was how easy it was to listen to. Everything sounds impressive, but doesn’t need to go out of its way to impress (If that makes any sense). ‘Do It Anyways’ doesn’t rely on difficult instrumental lines or vocals to find it’s vibe. Instead, it all sounds relaxed and natural – an awesome and truly memorable release.

Pio Hartnett » Roses
From the versatile instrumental to the gentle vocals, ‘Roses’ was gorgeous
INDIE TOP 39
‘Roses’ by Ireland-based singer/songwriter Pio Hartnett is impossible to describe. The instrumental was gentle and captured drastically different moods. When paired with the easy-going, playful vocals it was unforgettable. Not only was it a delight to listen to, but one that kept you constantly engaged. Whether strings or backing vocals, Hartnett easily matched the energy and soared over top. The way the instrumental floated between different moods was unprecedented and beautiful. When paired with the easy-going and playful nature of the vocals it was an absolute delight. I’ve talked in the past about hearing a smile, and ‘Roses’ by Pio Hartnett perfectly embodies that phrase.

Seafei » Home
The lush soundscape of ‘Home’ is enchanting
INDIE TOP 39
‘Home’ by Singapore-based producer/songwriter Seafei is cool and relaxed while still being groovy and exciting. Ebbing and flowing like the tides, the energy on this fun new track is palpable. Whether it’s busy drum grooves or chopped vocal lines, the wide variety of sounds kept me engaged through the entirety. Reminiscent of artists like Marshmello, it sounds like the type of song you put on at the end of a year highlights slideshow. ‘Home’ will leave you with a smile on your face. Fun and easy to listen to, you’re not going to want to miss this release.

Tina Loeffler » Hill Hide
The gentle energy of Tina Loeffler’s gorgeous vocals wraps ‘Hill Hide’ in delicacy
INDIE TOP 39
Poetic lyrics seem to float along with no particular destination on ‘Hill Hide’, the latest release by German singer/songwriter Tina Loeffler. Light vocals show off the beauty of Loeffler’s voice while the busy instrumental pushes the song forward like river currents. The two different voices, vocals and strings, complement one another phenomenally. They’d bring out the highs and lows of one another without seeming like they were vying for the spotlight. It helped ‘Hill Hide’ feel like it was pushing towards the end, but never rushing there. The result was warm, comfortable, and relaxing to listen to. A great release and awesome addition to Loeffler’s discography.
