With every passing day, the air gets a little more crisp. The leaves change color and fall, and slowly the animals disappear from sight. Fall is such a lovely time for so many things – music being one of them! I’m not quite sure what it is that makes the creative juices flow, but we’ve got yet another phenomenal week of releases for you. We hope you enjoy this weeks New Music Sunday!
MOLTENO » Illuminate
Never quite conforming to a single genre, ‘Illuminate’ is beautiful and chaotic.
INDIE TOP 39
MOLTENO has become almost synonymous with pushing the boundaries of pop. Always exploring new sounds, she continues to expand her discography with another unique release, ‘Illuminate’. Ethereal and dreamy strings drone along in the background while the light vocals flow overtop – seeming to meander between melodies. Breakneck drums set the pace and intensity while the soundscape twists and morphs around them. While it may be impossible to pin down the vast influences, MOLTENO’s unique sound is undeniably cool. Beauty comes and goes, while the atmosphere darkens and clears out. The choir of different voices melds perfectly to create an experience unlike any other.

Amorie » The Language Of Letting Go
Both releases of ‘The Language Of Letting Go’ are beautiful in their own ways.
INDIE TOP 39
The Language Of Letting Go was a very unique release for Norway based-Amorie. Originally written as a straightforward song about a relationship. As time went on, the underlying theme of letting go evolved beyond people. Because of this, the release was broken into 2 different versions – one supported by piano and the other EDM-esque synths. Delicate vocals push both tracks along, but bring out different emotions and beauty in each. The harrowing piano gives a melancholy vibe, while the upbeat synths give it an almost fed-up tone. Both are beautiful in their own way, and even if you’ve listened to one version – you’re not going to miss the other. A totally cool and unique listening experience.

Anna Baldree » Try Again
Vulnerability brings out the beauty of ‘Try Again’
INDIE TOP 39
Chattanooga local, Anna Baldree continues to deliver heartfelt music with her newest release ‘Try Again’. Conversational vocals pair with the calm indie rhythm section. The introspective lyrics suit Baldree’s emotional voice perfectly. Delicate delivery gives everything a vulnerable tone, but despite this the vocals are confident and empowered. Melodies were approachable and honest, making everything feel like it was said by a close friend. The minimalist rhythm section helped give support without drawing attention away from the melody. Everything just felt cool and relaxed, allowing the poetic nature of the lyrics to stick out of the texture.

Finn Forster » Stay Right Until The End
‘Stay Right Till The End’ shows off Finn Forster’s versatility
INDIE TOP 39
‘Stay Right Till The End’ is catchy and oozes cool. From Finn Forster’s catchy vocals to the energetic, supportive rhythm section every second is exciting. Sounding confident and in charge, the vocals were pivotal to the energy of the song. That being said, even when the vocals back away to let the instruments take a solo, the intensity is still palpable. Be it a guitar solo or just a fill in the drums, every voice worked together like a well-oiled machine. The band sounded mature and locked in together phenomenally. A great performance by everyone involved, and a great song all around.

Minas » Foreign
Totally unlike anything else out, ‘Foreign’ is awesome.
INDIE TOP 39
UK-based rapper Minas drops yet another banger, titled ‘Foreign’. With an instrumental that’s groovy enough to make your grandma bob her head, it’s easy-going and addictive. High energy, almost aggressive raps contrast the easy-going instrumental creating a listening experience not quite like anything else. Unique production makes this song incredibly memorable and shows off Minas’ artistry. When leaning into the hip hop style, the raps bring energy and push the song along. When focusing on the electronics, everything seems to float in an almost dreamlike soundscape. The combination is fun, experimental, and absolutely one of the best songs this week.

Roma Rose » Earned Me
Roma Rose reminds us never to lose our self-worth on ‘Earned Me’
INDIE TOP 39
The delicate delivery of UK-based singer/songwriter Roma Rose’s new song ‘Earned Me’ is simply beautiful. Empowering lyrics talk about how asking for more isn’t a bad thing. In fact, the opposite is true, sticking up for what you deserve isn’t easy and deserves respect. On the other side of that hard ask you’ll feel better and glad you did it. Rose does an incredible job detailing the hard emotions that come along with such a difficult question in a digestible way. Not only were the vocals gorgeous, but they were poetic and pivotal to the impact of this unforgettable song.

TJ North » Methuselah
TJ North demonstrates the power of silence on ‘Methuselah’
INDIE TOP 39
‘Methuselah’, the latest release by Floridian TJ North is light and easy to listen to. Coming and going like waves on a beach – sometimes powerful, while at others calm and easy-going. No matter how delicate a lyric, North sounded powerful and commanding. Matching the energy of the stripped-down acoustic instrumental phenomenally. Despite this thin texture, vocals had no trouble filling and rounding out the sound. Their versatility kept everything interesting, and complimented the walking lines in the guitar. The use of dynamics kept the song feeling fresh and deepened the impact of the higher energy parts.
