We have now reached July, which also means that we are just over half way through the year of 2021. We have been so lucky to have been blessed with so many amazing tunes from independent artists throughout the year, and we are thrilled to still see them coming.
We have a strong and versatile range of tunes this week. And we will be covering nine of our favourites in todays article.
Edward Sansom » Suck It Up
All of the amazing elements that make ‘Suck It Up’ suggest that Edward Sansom is back with a productive vengeance.
INDIE TOP 39
After a short hiatus following the release of his 2019 single ‘Can’t Fight them All’, Indie electro-rock artist Edward Sansom comes back with a bang, in the form of his brand new song ‘Suck It Up’. From the very get-go, this track emanates a very driven and ambitious energy forward, which feels absolutely perfect for a comeback single such as this one. The attitude in Sansom’s vocals perfectly matches the fiery feel of the track overall, which is composed of a well-balanced yet dynamic mixture of electronic and rock elements. It adds that kind of uniqueness to ‘Suck It Up’, while also having a festival-ready energy too. All of these qualities come together to suggest that Edward Sansom is back with a productive vengeance.
Away From The Earth » Watercolors
‘Watercolors’ carries Away From The Earth’s signature soothing ambience that never fails to feel out of this world.
indie top 39
After his 2021 EP, titled Paint With Grey, See in Color, already proved a sheer level of productivity, the musical project of multi-instrumentalist Kyle Wright, known as Away From The Earth continues on this year, with the release of his latest single. It’s awesome that, as its name suggests, ‘Watercolors’ feels like a spiritual successor to that EP. Not only by name, but by stylistic merit as well. This track sees the incredibly soothing ambience return. And it never fails to simply feel out of this world. But with that said, it also feels refreshing that ‘Watercolors’ stands out with its cooler and more neutral mood, that really helps it stand as an immersive and engaging masterpiece. We are blown away by just how much depth this amazing artist brings.
Daniella Spadini » Part Of You
A debut single that’s as warm, atmospheric, and feel-good as Daniella Spadini’s ‘Part Of You’ is surely a good sign of things to come.
INDIE TOP 39
‘Part Of You’ is the debut single release from singer-songwriter Daniella Spadini, who hopes to share her stories that make us smile through her music. This debut track sees Daniella bring forward a warmly familiar set of guitar chords to ease us into the highly intimate sound that covers ‘Part Of You’. We also get an amazing taste of the artist’s gorgeous vocals, that are laced with both emotion and haziness that pair perfectly with the soothing and loving feel of this tune. And as if that wasn’t enough, the wonderful progression of this track leads the listener into an additional layer of gorgeous strings. A debut single that’s as warm, atmospheric, and feel-good as ‘Part Of You’ is surely a good sign of things to come.
Isla Croll » Left in the Background
Isla Croll truly has struck three for three when it comes to great tunes, and ‘Left in the Background’ might be our favourite so far.
INDIE TOP 39
After releasing her debut single ‘End of Our Show’ earlier this year, and her sophomore ‘Has to Be This Way’ shortly after, this week sees soulful singer-songwriter Isla Croll come through with her third release. While the previous two singles were perfect candidates for displaying Isla Croll’s uniqueness and authenticity, ‘Left in the Background’ may just be an even more brilliantly shining example. Kicking things off right away with a funky and soulful instrumental, in tandem with Croll’s brilliantly engaging flow. This awesome start evolves into what is a brilliantly soothing and blissful tune, that brings a flawlessly feel-good vibe. Isla Croll truly has struck three for three when it comes to great tunes, and ‘Left in the Background’ might be our favourite so far.
KinetiX » White Oil…
KinetiX go even further with their unique fusion of pop and EDM, with their third dynamic single release.
INDIE TOP 39
After kicking off their discography earlier this year, the Ireland-based trio that is KinetiX, pushes their unique fusion of dance and pop even further with the release of their third single ‘White Oil…’. The bands previous two singles did an incredible job of adding additional layers of dynamic energy to the accessible pop framework of their production, which in turn, always gives their music a festival-ready feel that’s thoroughly enjoyable to listen to. And in the case of ‘White Oil’, this sentiment feels fully realised, and further refined. It is arguably also the most clear fusion of EDM and pop; the two genres that KinetiX are inspired by. What all of that said, it is obvious to us that with this productive year they are having, KinetiX is fast growing.
Kylie Rothfield » Ghost
Kylie Rothfield follows her previous effort with the somber and emotive sound of ‘Ghost’, while bringing some amazing vocals once again.
INDIE TOP 39
Following not too far behind from her earlier release this year, in the form of her vibrant, luminous, and soaring single ‘Everyone Else’, Kylie Rothfield follows through with a much more somber tune, named ‘Ghost’. This track provides a stark contrast to Kylie’s preceding effort, thanks to its stripped-back, slow-burning pace, and highly emotive feel all across its soundscape. Indeed, it shows us that Kylie Rothfield can champion a range of different moods. However, there are elements that remain the same between the two singles, such as Kylie Rothfield’s phenomenal vocal talent (praised even by the likes of Alicia Keys), and the sheer level of immersion they both present. But when all is said and done, ‘Ghost’ stands as a phenomenal track by its own merits.
Naama Guggenheim » Carrie & Big
‘Carrie & Big’ sees Naama Gugenheim continue teasing towards her upcoming project, with a warm and hazy vibe.
INDIE TOP 39
Late 2020 saw electronic R&B artist Naama Guggenheim begin to tease her upcoming project, in the form of her third single ‘Dilemma’. This was when listeners really began to get a greater glimpse into Naama Gugenheim’s colourful brand of electronic bedroom pop. Since then, we have had a generous amount of tracks to follow, with the teasing continuing with the release of Guggenheim’s brand new single ‘Carrie & Big’. Following the energetic and upbeat sound of her previous single ‘My Lucky Day’, earlier this year, ‘Carrie & Big’ sees a more soothing, chilled, and above all, warm vibe from Guggenheim. It feels like a track that was released at the perfect time, with its hazy atmosphere perfectly reflecting this time of year.
Serena Clara » Motherlove
If the level of artistry we got from this ‘Motherlove’ is any signifier of things to come, Serena Clara is most certainly one to watch.
INDIE TOP 39
‘Motherlove’ is the debut single from London singer-songwriter Serena Clara; an artist who strives to spread her emotionally driven songwriting, fuelled by real-life experiences, with a wider range of listeners. In our minds, she certainly did a phenomenal job of this with ‘Motherlove’. We adore the warm, evolving synth melody that does very well to build up the seamless progression of ‘Motherlove’. A song that seemingly reflects upon the idea of losing that sense of faith and motherly optimism, this track effortlessly sucked us into its narrative and soundscape. If the level of artistry we got from this debut single is any signifier of things to come, it means that Serena Clara is most certainly an artist to look out for.
Taylor T » Blue Bear
Taylor T presents a more raw vocal style on ‘Blue Bear’, while the ever-atmospheric instrumental provides the perfect backdrop.
INDIE TOP 39
An important part of our Power of Indie community, and a brilliant singer, songwriter, and musician, Taylor T bookmarked the first chapter of his discography, with the release of his debut EP, Learn How to Love. From there, listeners have been blessed with even more of his highly intimate and atmospheric folk sound, through his 2021 releases; the third of which, arrived this week. ‘Blue Bear’ sees Taylor T take a slightly different vocal approach to his previous 2 2021 single, in which he adds them into the mix in a more raw and effect-free way. This allowed us to even more easily hold on to every word sung by Taylor T, while the ever-atmospheric yet stripped-back instrumental provides the perfect musical background for this gorgeous song.
