We were lucky enough to receive a very strong versatility of tracks this week. Here are 9 of our favourite picks below.
Luna Keller » High Low High Low
Luna Keller tips the atmospheric scales towards the more uplifting territory, through the amazingly warm and empowering melody of ‘High Low High Low’.
INDIE TOP 39
Bringing the teasing towards her upcoming third project into 2021, Tenerife singer-songwriter, and a big part of the Power of Indie family, Luna Keller, arrives with her first 2021 release ‘High Low High Low’. Having written this new song under inspiration from the first lockdown ‘High Low High Low’ is about facing the highs and lows that everyone will inevitably face in life, and reflects the idea of life being a “rollercoaster” in musical form. And while the context of this track feels bittersweet on the surface, Keller tips the atmospheric scales towards the more uplifting territory, through the amazingly warm and empowering melody of the track. ‘High Low High Low’ is yet another amazing single to boost the hype towards her upcoming project.
Anøma Lee » Far from Home
‘Far From Home’ truly feels like a best-case-scenario when it comes to creating an immaculate balance of dreamy luminosity
INDIE TOP 39
Originally based in Brussels, Belgium, London-based artist Anøma Lee shared her dreamy yet engaging fusion of ambient pop and indie-soul from 2019, releasing her debut that year, and her sophomore single ‘Steal Your Mind’ in 2020. This week saw Lee release her third single, titled ‘Far from Home’. Continuing to build the artist’s musical world, which is heavily inspired by nature’s many elements, this track truly feels like a best-case-scenario when it comes to creating an immaculate balance of dreamy luminosity, and a gripping sense of catchiness. There’s such a great sense of musical depth to be found on ‘Far from Home’, and each of the elements in carries works in tandem with each other perfectly.
Darrian Gerard » I Don’t Need Anyone
‘I Don’t Need Anyone’ carries a brilliant sense of warmth, and when combined with the lyrical sentiment of this track, creates a wonderfully uplifting tune.
INDIE TOP 39
‘I Don’t Need Anyone’ is the debut single release from the Canadian singer-songwriter Darrian Gereard, and is the first result of the artist’s passion for playing guitar and writing songs. It’s obviously no secret that we at Indie Top 39 love independent artists, so it felt incredible to listen to a song that states an artist’s independence loud and clear. Writing this track at a time in her musical journey where she felt like she was the only one who believed in her, it is wonderful to see just how brilliantly this artist has pushed through. ‘I Don’t Need Anyone’ carries a brilliant sense of warmth, and when combined with the lyrical sentiment of this track, creates a wonderfully uplifting tune. A brilliantly-made debut track.
L E M F R E C K » Falling
There’s definitely a compelling sense of atmosphere to be found on ‘Falling’, and we definitely found ourselves indulged and immersed.
INDIE TOP 39
The first single release of 2021 from R&B artist L E M F R E C K, ‘Falling’ sees the artist taking what is arguably one of his most vocal approaches towards a track, whilst successfully injecting his knack for musical storytelling, and adding an introspective twist. We could definitely sense a resemblance to Joji with L E M F R E C K’s newest tune, and for those who are big fans of Joji, or any kind of melodic trap music, you will likely love ‘Falling’ as well. There’s definitely a compelling sense of atmosphere to be found on this tune, and we definitely found ourselves indulged and immersed in this track. We honestly feel that ‘Falling’ is a tune that this artist champions, and we hope to hear more tracks like it.
Matilda & Carnival Kid » Walking on Our Own
‘Walking on Our Own’ does really well to compliment the styles of both Matilda and Carnival Kid, further fusing the two artists together.
INDIE TOP 39
The sophomore single release from vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Matilda, as well as her first release of 2021, ‘Walking on Our Own’ sees Matilda collaborate with folk artist Carnival Kid. After releasing his debut album Ever Present Past earlier this year, we were thrilled to see that Carnival Kid was still eager to come together with an artist like Matilda, to create a single as deep and as atmospheric as ‘Walking on Our Own’. We felt that the track’s instrumental does really well to compliment the styles of both Matilda and Carnival Kid, further fusing the two artists together on this one song. To top it all off, the vocal harmonies that the two artists share are simply immaculate.
Moon Museum » With You
We felt both highly immersed and completely awe-inspired by just how psychedelically complete ‘With You’ sounded.
INDIE TOP 39
With the members of Moon Museum hailing from various parts of California, their time spent exploring their sonic capabilities, and putting together new music had led up to earlier this year, in which Moon Museum released their debut single ‘Pleasures of Peace’. This week sees the band release their sophomore track, and further pushes their hazy, bright, and dynamic sound. Titled ‘With You’, this new track carries a more slow-paced rhythm, but no less hard-hitting. And this ultimately seemed to give Moon Museum more freedom to really let their dynamic feel take hold. We felt both highly immersed and completely awe-inspired by just how psychedelically complete this track sounded.
Raleÿell » Dysphoria
Combining a powerful narrative with sleek production, and ‘Dysphoria’ stands as a truly memorable ballad.
INDIE TOP 39
With Toronto-based indie-pop artist Raleÿell, and their third single release, listeners are treated to a song that carries a great sense of connection with its introspective lyrics, and wonderfully empowering as a result. ‘Dysphoria’ addresses the feelings that come as a result of having dysphoria as transparently as possible. This allowed ‘Dysphoria’ to really connect with us as a song made for those who live in a mental cage, and want to break free from it. Musically, we feel that ‘Dysphoria’ carries the sleekest and refined production from Raleÿell thus far, and adding into it that almost dramatic feel that empowers the song’s narrative, and ‘Dysphoria’ stands as a truly memorable ballad.
Sam Seccombe » Into You
With the collaborative production behind ‘Into You’, we get what feels like a further enhanced version of Sam Seccombe’s groovy formula.
INDIE TOP 39
South-west London indie-pop artist Sam Seccombe continues the run-up to his upcoming EP, titled To Be Quite Frank, set to arrive in May, and he does so with his first collaborative track. Working on production alongside Sam Ellwood, the infectious energy of ‘Into You’ became a reality. While carrying a very accessible feel, the soulfulness behind ‘Into You’ also allows this track to feel like a unique experience, and could even be considered as a track that carries a more enhanced feeling version of the groovy formula that Sam Seccombe has been championing throughout his musical career. We are really looking forward to seeing what Sam Seccombe blesses us with new in the foreseeable future.
Starrgazy » Flying
The massively cosmic and warm sound that powers Starrgazy’s debut single had us getting completely lost in this awesome tune.
INDIE TOP 39
‘Flying’ is the debut single release from the Cornwall-based musical partnership between singer Lucie Hill, and multi-instrumentalist Benjamin Wesley Morgan, known as Starrgazy. The supposed musical direction this duo aims to take felt instantly clear to us, thanks to the massively cosmic and warm sound that powers ‘Flying’. It was the kind of atmosphere that we definitely found ourselves getting lost in, and for a debut track to achieve such an effect is frankly an outstanding achievement. We can definitely see this song being tailor-made for the warm summer days ahead, thanks to their aesthetic feeling inspired by bands like Alvvays. We cannot wait for this awesome duo to keep the dreamy tunes coming.
