One of the more positive things to come out of the chaos that was 2020 is one of our favourite feature concepts, ‘Late to the Party’. Here are our thoughts on how it was created and some of the musical gems it uncovered.
Our goal was to specifically seek out artists who had been making incredible music, quietly doing their own thing, all without our knowledge. The result was discovering some outstanding musicians who we knew we had to introduce to our audience. This wasn’t a feature limited by genre or style and that’s reflected by the variety of music we shared over the year, from hip-hop to prog-rock, alt-pop to folk and jazz. We absolutely loved the freedom and the true discovery aspect that came from ‘Late to the Party’.
Some notable mentions that really shook our world were the inadmissible Maria Køhnke (cover image), the contemporary, jazz fused Doctor Gosso & the Samplers, the hugely compelling Bells Fell Silent, and not to mention the songbird, transcendent music of Justine Bennett. Here’s to an abundance of new discoveries in 2021 and we look forward to sharing them with you.
