Our friendship with KALYJA RAIN started a year ago when I discovered her extremely sexy track “Honey & Soap” and decided to reach out to her.
At that time she was travelling in South East Asia and focusing more on photography. Recently her debut EP was removed from Spotify and there was part of me died because I thought that there can only be two reasons: she decided to leave music and focus on some other projects or she is changing the sound.
So you can only imagine the excitement I had when I noticed a teaser on Instagram saying that she is ready to release a new song.
Friday is the day when all over the world artists are sharing new music but today there was one song I was waiting for – “Mile High”. I can’t even explain but the beats, catchy melody and soulful vocal totally took over me and I’ve been listening for it on repeat for the last few hours and decided to ask KALYJA RAIN to tell me more about the song.
“Mile High” is a song for those finding their feet, falling back in love with the self, and honouring the shadows and truths that are so darn hard to face.

Can you tell me more about the how you created “Mile High”?
My latest single is so very dear to my heart. Its first words were written in a car, driving away from natural hot springs on the Colorado border. I was in love with an illusion of independence, and a false sense of invincibility at 18 years old. I had convinced myself that this was everything I wanted – Life in a city, grinding, partying, completely disconnected from my body, but ultimately “making it” on the surface!
With the physical, emotional, and spiritual pain that stemmed from chronic illnesses, I tiptoed along a dark path that praised every shadow I have ever met.

I coped and cried and broke and cried some more, until finally… I heard a call back to my home, The Sierra Nevadas. I felt my body melt into this mountain town as if it knew, we could breathe once more. I have deemed this period of my healing, teaching and constructive crumbling, ‘Mile High?.
Why you chose “Mile High” to be your first come back single?
I chose this as the first single because it always felt like the foundation, it’s my ground 0 moment. I played this piece live for 3 years before I finally recorded it. That’s a long time to know you love something and never give it life, “Mile High” has kinda been the skeleton in my closet. But what it has started is an outpour of even more real-to-life songs.
What can we expect next?
So for the next release, you can absolutely expect the lyrics to bounce in your brain for days, but the belly to what is yet to come is grander. It’s a sound I?ve never dreamed of toying with. The next piece, generally makes me want to shake off my own skin in the most euphoric expression – you?ll see.
I want to drive into the night listening to “Mile High” until the world ends
