This week, we have been treated to yet another great wave of brilliant tracks.
Many this week seemed to excel in the atmosphere especially, and as a true sucker for a good musical atmosphere, I was excited to go over the nine tracks that had my attention the most.
Atlas Engine » Where Have You Gone?
What had me straight away with this track was how well the emotion was conveyed, both musically and vocally. It feels incredibly heartfelt and in a genuine way. Add to that a dreamy atmosphere and a great sense of progression, and this track will be sure to really stick with you.
Dana Gavanski » Yesterday Is Gone
I adore the minimal yet layered atmosphere that this track creates. It has quite the cute and sober-sounding melody, which also feels nostalgic in some kind of sense. This uplifting melody also seems to mix really well with Dana Gavanski’s slightly low-pitch vocal style, and I find it to be both a very enjoyable, and very tranquil track.
Dictator » Taped Up
Stylistically, “Taped Up?” deems to combine the likes of Sam Fender and Foals, all while adding a slightly heavier and upbeat layer to the mix. What this results in is something truly epic sounding. It is an awesome and masterfully crafted combination of gritty energy and atmospheric beauty, and I absolutely love it!
Down Time » Hurts Being Alive
My favourite thing about this newest single from Down Time would undoubtedly be its warm and spring-like atmosphere. I could probably see a resemblance between the style of this track, and the festival-ready energy of the music put out by Blossoms. An absolutely perfect listen for those who are longing to get into the spirit of the fast-approaching spring-time.
FOZSA » Patch
I found this to be quite the unique song, in the way that it carries with it a warm and upbeat rhythm that is then mixed with slightly colder electronic sounds. It a real mixture of moods that had me very interested, very fast. But most importantly, it really is a treat to the ears, with its wide array of musical layers that keep this track exciting from beginning to end.
Jacko Hooper » Beg, Steal or Borrow
Jacko Hooper really takes his stripped back atmosphere to a whole new level of indulgence with his newest track, “Beg, Steal or Borrow?”. The combination of acoustic guitar licks, piano, and the echoing vocals really make for a gorgeous combination that has such a strong sense of vastness in its sound. An absolutely beautiful track.
Lakesides » Collide
While we’re on the subject of unique musical mixtures, Lakeside’s “Collide” carries its own uniqueness and enjoyability. It came across to me as a very interesting combination of indie-folk and ambient electronic styles. This alliance of styles has been played around with in previous tracks by Lakeside, but it feels far tighter together in this newest instalment, which I feel is a fantastic step forward.
Near Mrs » Catch of the Day
Both nostalgic and incredibly fun, “Catch of the Day” felt like the kind of indie rock single that I had been longing for, for quite some time. For starters, the energy that this track creates really feels reminiscent of the golden age of 2000’s indie rock. I was also blown away by just how upbeat the guitar riffs were in this song, and how it just ties the bow around a completely enjoyable, and incredibly solid track.
Sansha » Blank Fall
?Blank Fall? felt like one I needed to include, from the very moment I heard that remarkably dreamy instrumentation. I honestly don’t think I’ve listened to something as musically indulgent and whimsical in quite a long time. This track also feels quite spring-like, and as a result, feel like its time of release really justifies its enjoyability.
