It’s absolutely mad how fast 2019 came to an end. It was an amazing year and even though we were unable to post the chart every single week we still discovered so many new artists.
Out of 319 songs that entered the chart during the year, 31 managed to reach the top spot. Here are all the songs that stormed the chart. It’s so amazing to see that several artists managed to do it more than once.
1. BEAUTIFUL THING » Waiting
BEAUTIFUL THING is a duo from London who took our world by storm in 2019. “Waiting” spent two weeks at the top of the chart at the beginning of the year.
2. AMANDA PALMER » Drowning In The Sound
AMANDA PALMER needs no introduction. A true American icon who inspired a new generation of artists to change the mindset about the music industry in her 2013 Ted Talk “The Art Of Asking”. “Drowning in the sound” was a statement and the best of Amanda’s songs to date.
3. BEISSOUL & EINIUS » Rooftop
BEISSOUL & EINIUS are a duo from Lithuania. They’ve been around for years but we truly noticed them with the release of the stunning single “Rooftop”.
4. KRISTER LINDER » Gone
We could easily name KRISTER LINDER‘s “Gone” as one of the most hypnotic tunes of 2019. No wonder that song spent several weeks at the top of the chart.
5. MJ COLE & KUDU BLUE » Mercy
“Mercy” marks a unique collaboration between legendary DJ MJ COLE and the bands that we’ve been supporting since the end of 2016 – KUDU BLUE.
6. GLASSIO » Age Of Experience
A duo from New York GLASSIO this year returned to the top spot with another great track. This track was a runner up in the best songs of 2019 based on the performance in the chart.
7. PETER AND KERRY » They Know God (But I Know You)
“They Know god (But I Know You)” was one of those heartbreaking songs that got to the core our souls. It left us speechless and we wanted more. PETER AND KERRY spent two weeks at the top.
8. BREATHE. » London
“London” is a second single from the dup BREATHE. that entered our chart and it’s the second time the band reached the top spot. This is how you do it. Can’t wait to hear new music.
9. EDWARD SANSOM » Can’t Fight Them All
What a year it has been for our friend EDWARD SANSOM. In 2018, we named “Headlock” as the best song of the year and now “I Can’t Fight Them All” rocked the top of the chart for two weeks.
10. KALYJA RAIN » Mile High
Our love for KALYJA RAIN is neverending. “Mile High” was a comeback track that shifted Kalyja’s sound to a different universe. We loved it so much that it was named as the best track of 2019.
11. WILL HUTTON » Silhouette
London based singer-songwriter WILL HUTTON is the only artist who managed to top the chart with two different projects. His band SWEETWOOD achieved it in early 2018 and this year confirmed that he can deliver amazing music as a solo artist too.
12. CLOSE TALKER » The Change It Brings
CLOSE TALKER is a band from Canda that we discovered this year and we love these guys! They are fire! “The Change It Brings” reached the top spot with no
13. HARRY STRANGE » Steady Unstable
HARRY STRANGE is one of the few artists who not only entered the chart for the first time, but he managed to reach the top spot with two different singles. “Steady Unstable” started the trend.
14. LAKESIDES » Bullet
Sweden is famous for having great musicians. LAKESIDES is a solo project by Natanael Summer who released two singles last year and “Bullet” blew us away.
15. VINCI » When We Go Out
VINCI is one of the bands from Ireland that we love dearly. This year was incredible for them as their music got more and more attention oversees during 2019. We named “Lions” as the best song of 2017. “When We Go Out” brought the band back to the top spot.
16. DIAMOND THUG » Face The Sky
DIAMOND THUG is a 4-piece band from Cape Town in South Africa. “Face The Sky” was one of the two singles that entered the chart in 2019, however, this was the one that managed to reach the top spot.
17. KALYJA RAIN » Shake Me Down
Our girl KALYJA RAIN did it again. “Shake Me Down” was a very successful follow-up to the incredibly catchy “Mile High” that landed at the top spot at the end of July.
18. BOY WILLOWS » Lunette
If you check BOY WILLOWS Spotify bio you will see only one thing: “Spicy boy from Maryland with long legs and a tiny heart”. All you need is just to listen to his music to realise how amazing he is.
19. HARRY STRANGE » Six Feet Under
“Six Feet Under” was the second single that brought London based singer-songwriter HARRY STRANGE to the top spot. Now, this is a way to start the year on Indie Top 39. Well done.
20. MARTI WEST » Give Me Light
As soon as we heard “Give Me Light” we were captivated by Italian born London based singer-songwriter MARTI WEST. The song spent three weeks as the best song.
21. DADDY WAS A MILKMAN » Body On Body
DADDY WAS A MILKMAN is a solo music project from Lithuania. We’ve been following the journey of the artist who became a sensation back in Lithuania since the first singles. “Body On Body” was the fourth time that the artist reached the top spot.
22. JOSEPH » Good Luck, Kid
We’ve been following JOSEPH’s journey since their very first single “White Flag”. Three sisters returned this year with a brand new style, sound and album. “Good Luck, Kid” was the single that blew us away and it managed to spend two weeks at the top spot.
23. SUO LEILA » Prasau
Those who follow our chart know that Lithuanian music holds a special place in our hearts. SUO LEILA (Dog Leila) is a brand new project that released several songs. We chose “Please” as the leading single that rocked the chart at the end of September.
24. SHISHI » Hush
SHISHI is a trio from Lithuania. When we first heard the song we got hooked. Then when we saw the music video we knew we were in trouble. “Hush” rocked our world and the chart for two consecutive weeks.
25. ED PROSEK » Killing Me
ED PROSEK was born and raised in California and now spends his time between Brighton and Berlin. “Killing Me” is such a powerful song that totally rocked our world.
26. ARLO DAY » Bad Timing
We came across ARLO DAY music when she was performing as an opening act at one of the gigs in London. We were mesmerised and “Bad Timing” landed straight at number one.
27. BOUNDARY RUN » Lose Ourselves
Sadly there is not much information about the duo BOUNDARY RUN. All we need is music and when we first heard “Lose Ourselves” we need we hit the jackpot. It landed straight at number one.
28. WILL KILLEN » Overthinking
We have only a few artists who managed to reach the top spot with every single that entered the chart. Our friend from Leeds WILL KILLEN is one of them. “Overthinking” sends a powerful message and the track was haunting us for months.
30. OWEN DENVIR » Ghost
An orchestral viola player turned singer-songwriter OWEN DENVIR entered the chart like a storm with his single about “Ghost”.
31. SEAN KENNEDY » Young & Depressed
Even though SEAN KENNEDY‘s single is called “Young & Depressed” sounds moody, the songs actually made us laugh. Such clever songwriting and the song landed straight at number one.
32. SOD VEN » Carry Me Home
SOD VEN to us is pure mystery. We didn’t find the Facebook page or much information online, but nevertheless “Carry Me Home” was named as the last number one of the decade.
