Last November Danish duo SHERPA released debut single “Fornever”. It made a smashing debut on the Indie Top 39 and spent two consecutive weeks?at the top spot.
To my surprise instead of releasing another hauntingly dreamy track, they dropped a completely the opposite sounding banger “Sunshine”. Yesterday, the song became the highest new entry on the Indie Top 39 and landed at number 4.?
SHERPA is, in short, a perfect matchup between two striving impassioned people for whom music is a life condition. But their paths have been very different.
‘Sunshine’ is a well-crafted pop song with 80s-industrial elements is a dedication to those who have hit rock bottom and probably should have stayed there…but instead chose to say ‘F**k you! I?m a f**king ray of f**king sunshine!?
“Sunshine” was born after a friend all worn-out after a night out notably posted a selfie on Instagram with this catchy phrase.
“It was a really funny and in a way very poetic post. The melody came to me right away.” Carsten Sherpa explains. The rest of the song was finished in the studio together with duo’s second half Tore Nissen.
?As a duo we want to be at the forefront and take people to the places where they feel the insecurity?, Carsten Sherpa Eliasen says.
Considering the contrast between their two singles, it is not surprising that many describe SHERPA as a very dynamic and interchangeable songwriter duo and it will be exciting to see this musical versatility unfold on their debut EP ‘Heartless’, which will be released on March 16th.
