Yon Idy is yet another artist very close to our hearts at Indie Top 39. From ‘My Fire‘ to ‘In Time‘, the North Macedonian-based singer/songwriter/storyteller just kept on offering up tunes that we fell in love with. Earlier this month he released ‘In My Head’, and it’s certainly a departure from Idy’s previous indie-folk, indie-pop sound. Taking an edgier and more gritty tone, the musician tells a melancholic tale of a love that no longer exists, and the obsessive memories that are the only thing left behind. “In my head, in my bed, in my thoughts and things you said”.
Yon’s reputation keeps growing and growing, and he was invited to launch ‘In My Head’ at the Sunny Hill festival in Kosovo earlier this month, a festival organised by Dua Lipa and her father. The world is beginning to take note of our good friend Yon, and we feel it’s richly deserved.
‘In My Head’ showcases an artist who isn’t afraid to step out of their comfort zone, and that’s something we genuinely respect at Indie Top 39!

What does the song mean to you?
Most of all, it means something fresh. I feel different about this song from the others, mostly because it sounds different, but it’s also new territory for me. I’m excited about it and for the opportunities that this song will bring.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be.
I wrote this song about a year ago. I guess we had two or three versions of the song before finishing the version that is out now. We were looking for sounds with my producer, and then once we stumbled upon the distorted guitar we knew where the song was headed. Then quickly, piece by piece, everything fell into place.
What do you hope to achieve with this song?
The song carries with it new sounds that I haven’t used until now. I felt like it was time to try some different directions to go with my music. What I wanted to achieve with the song, which I guess is achieved already, is to have the audience hear this side of me, too. Hopefully, they enjoy it as much as they’ve done with my previous works.
What do you want to achieve in the next 12 months with your music?
Hopefully publishing as much music as possible. There are a lot of songs that I have gathered up over the years and I’m really looking forward to having the opportunity to work with different producers.
