ICEBERG is the moniker of New York-based singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and engineer Charlotte Berg. Last month, she released ‘Swim’, the first single from her upcoming EP, and it’s an elegant and immersive tune that we at Indie Top 39 fell in love with instantly! Recorded while spending time in London, ‘Swim’ is a superbly crafted and layered track that truly feels like more of an emotional journey than a song. Berg’s longtime work experience as a producer has finally allowed her to discover the unique and mesmerising sound that she’s been searching for. Having recently moved to a peaceful cabin in the Adirondack Mountains, surrounded by trees, lakes, and nature, all we can do is now wait, with serious anticipation, to hear her upcoming EP!

What does the song mean to you?
‘Swim’ is a very personal song to me. It’s about a desire to arrive at the thing I’ve been chasing for 8 years, but also about society’s obsession with youth and the double standards women in the industry face. I wrote it in my flat in south London during lockdown after receiving an arts grant to complete the project.
Who do you hope the song resonates with the most?
People trying to achieve something they’re not sure will materialize. Not everything that’s real is visible. Human beings have a hard time grasping this concept. We have to believe something can happen to really attack it. We live one life so we must do the things our soul asks us to.
What do you hope to achieve with this song?
Essentially I’ve been trying to create ‘Swim’ for 8 years. It’s the sound that’s been in my head since I started doing music professionally. Dean Sherwood shot the music video and Harry Baker directed it and I think the combination of the song’s powerful, unique sound and the quality of the music video make it deserving of a lot of attention. I haven’t felt this way about any other release so I expect ‘Swim’ to reach a lot of people.
