Glasgow-based singer/songwriter, Ben Walker, recently unleashed his brand new single called ‘High Tower’, and it’s no wonder that the gifted musician’s stock is on the rise! Energetic and hard-hitting, ‘High Tower’ is Walker’s first release of the year, and he pulls out all the stops on the track. His edgy and sharp guitar work is wonderfully intertwined with his Jake Bugg-esque vocal performance, producing a zestful, spirited, and dynamic tune that we at Indie Top 39 simply can’t stop listening to!
Having burst onto the scene early last year with an exceptional, stripped-down version of his song ‘Start Again’, Walker has already shared a stage with the likes of Kyle Falconer (lead vocalist for The View) and Calum Bowie. We believe the future is incredibly bright for this talented artist, and wait with bated breath to see what he conjures up next!
Dynamic, energetic, and a little edgy too, ‘High Tower’ hits all the right notes!

What does the song mean to you?
‘High Tower’ is an interesting one as it’s about a man who I had very little to do with. However, he told me his story, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. So I wrote a song around it.
What do you hope to achieve with this song?
The aim for a while was to create a first full studio single, however, have a full band on the track. With this song I hope to get out there, create a fan base, get the name known, and look to make as big of an impact as possible. With the response to ‘High Tower’ so far I think it’s safe to say that’s happening!
What do you want to achieve in the next 12 months with your music?
I think push towards a sold out headline show. That is top of the tree for now! Do another one or two singles and then an EP, bring in some merch, and step the band up. I have an unreasonably talented group of guys playing alongside me with a great sound. To tie away the question – everything bigger , practice more, create more, and progress more.
When did you realise that music is what you wanted to do?
When I was 17. I have only been on the scene and performing live for just shy of a year. I started playing music when I was 15 at school. I was in a music class and the teacher was getting observed. She usually had a very relaxed view on music and the general rule was that if you want to learn music you go to that side of the room and if you don’t you go sit at the other side and do another classes work. Me being 15 – I took the easy way out.
Somehow I got roped into playing electric guitar that day. I’m glad I did. From there I started singing alongside. I decided in my last year of school I wanted to carry on with music outside of school so I applied to UHI to do a degree in popular music.
