‘Just Believe The Truth’ is the brand new single from Surrey-based indie-pop-rock musician Martin Paul Cuthew, and it’s a cracking and expertly layered tune that we at Indie Top 39 just can’t get enough of! A song about dealing with the highs and lows of a long-term relationship, ‘Just Believe The Truth’ sees Cuthew take a sonically upbeat approach. With catchy guitar work, groovy basslines, bright drums, and a chorus that you’ll be singing along to for days, the talented artist has come up with a sound that we truly believe sets him apart from the rest.
Inspired to embark on his musical journey after falling in love with Oasis, Cuthew now sites more recent influences like Coldplay, Muse, and M83. With an EP scheduled for release sometime in the spring, this won’t be the last you hear from Martin Paul Cuthew. And we couldn’t be happier about that!
‘Just Believe The Truth’ is the perfect tune for your summer road trip. A pop-rock classic from Martin Paul Cuthew!
INDIE TOP 39
What does the song mean to you?
‘Just Believe The Truth’ is about the trials and tribulations of being in a long-term relationship with someone. There are sometimes fights and disagreements; tears and pain, but the most important thing is that you know you love each other unconditionally, despite the challenges you face together.
It’s about ignoring all the external “noise” in the world – the distractions, things vying for your attention, of which there are more and more of these days – and focusing on what we believe is right deep inside. If you want proof of why you should work to stay together, you need look no further than the truth … that love is worth fighting for. You will find a way back to each other. Your love will cross the widest ocean and bridge the deepest canyon.
When did you realise that music is what you wanted to do?
I began playing keyboards from an early age, creating instrumental music influenced by electronic artist Jean-Michel Jarre. As a teenager, I started playing guitar and listened to bands like Pink Floyd, Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, Blur, Radiohead, alongside electronic music such as Orbital and The Prodigy. However, it was Oasis that first really inspired me to want to play live, write songs with lyrics, and take music more seriously. I remember watching them on stage and thinking “that must be amazing – that’s what I want to do!”
What do you want to achieve in the next 12 months with your music?
So far I’ve released 4 singles, so the next thing for me is to expand on that. I am currently working on a 5 track EP which I’m hoping to have out in the next few months – it’ll be a chance for me to deviate from the 3-4 minute pop-rock song format and showcase some different, more expansive musical styles. After that, I have plans for a 2nd EP and then ultimately an album next year.
Please finish the sentence – Music to me is…
A mix of catharsis and celebration. It’s about love, hope, anger, sadness, joy. It’s very visceral for me.
